I think so. It would be strange if someone joined the Straw Hats and is nearly on par with Luffy. She's already been presented as being stronger than Zoro which would be completely wack if he was no longer the second strongest in the crew. It makes me think that Yamato has been portrayed as stronger than she really is. Luffy also inadvertently talked down to her when saying thanks for keeping Kaido busy for them.
