Basically a recommendation list of manga for those looking for something similar to DB, as this is a DB forum, after all.

- One Piece - Pretty obvious. Both are extremely popular battle Shonen, with DB inspiring a lot of OP's concepts such as Luffy's personality, the Douriki system, etc.

- Toriko - Toriko is essentially the combination of all the good aspects of Dragon Ball, One Piece, Hokuto no Ken and Kinnikuman, with a highly inventive setting and excellent world building.

- Kinnikuman - Kinnikuman may have inspired many of the concepts that DB is miscredited for having popularised within the battle Shonen genre, such as an alien protagonist, multiple tournament arcs, a good transition from comedy to action and even the idea of power levels. Both series also follow up by introducing a next generation as their story goes on.

- Kongo Bancho - Aside from both being Battle Shonen, both present a good mix of comedy and action, as well as having the jump in powers becoming even more insane between tiers.

- Dr. Slump - Pretty obvious. Toriyama created both.

Feel free to add more.

YuYu Hakusho, Fairy Tail, Naruto and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure are other shonen manga, similar to Dragon Ball, that I'd recommend.

Pretty much every single battle shounen can go into this list.

Would've mentioned JoJo, though that's far more similar to HnK and other manly 80s Shonen than it is to DB.

It does have some DB references in Part 4 for what that counts.

True. Red Hot Chili Pepper = Freeza + 1st form Cell + Gold and Yagyu = Dodoria.

That's true, although CC is just suggesting the good ones out of the majority of the complete and utter shit that genre has.

Well, ones that were both good and more similar to DB than to another popular series, such as the large amount of Shonen inspired by HnK in the 80s being more appropriate for an HnK based recommendation than a DB one.

Yeah, Hokuto no Ken inspired many 80's fighting manga and surprisingly, even Vinland Saga to some extent (the author claimed he was taken in by the fighting for love and justice thing). Although the 90's saw many more mangaka being inspired by DB than HnK. (Kubo said he was inspired by Saint Seiya as well, but he's total shit...)

Aku no Hana and DBZ

so so similar

so much so I'm surprised Oshimi hasn't been sued by Toriyama yet

Definitely Yu Yu Hakusho. A Dark haired young man meets a blue haired woman who sets him on an adventure that changes his life forever. His enemies become friends, he learns of his past heritage and becomes not only a master of martial arts, but able to wield ki. There's tournaments, the hero goes to the after life, there's wishes. It's all there.

One Piece and Toriko are very popular. One Piece especially, although Toriko doesn't sell well.

Hunter x Hunter: Pretty self explanatory. One of the best shows of all time, if not, the best. There are very few Shounen cliches and is pretty unique and amazing.

Kuroko no Basuke: This is for sports and non sports fans alike. It's the best sports show I've seen. The character development, the action, everything is done well.

Parasyte: It's a little bit different from those genres. It's a Seinin, but it's really amazing. Everything from the plot, to the action, and to the characters feel actually relate-able. It was done so well.

All of the ones I listed have a great amount of sales and popularity in Japan, becoming pop culture icons (except Kongo Bancho, which is vastly underrated). The sales for the series I mentioned are:

One Piece - Over 380 million copies sold (only manga that sold more than DB).

Toriko - Over 20 million copies sold.

Kinnikuman - Over 70 million copies sold.

Dr. Slump - Over 35 million copies sold.

Actually, Toriko's sales are quite exceptional, despite the anime's poor standing. For a series that's only gone on for 7 years, it's sold more than any other of that time period (other than Shingeki no Kyojin). 2 million copies were sold in between last year and this one, which is almost as impressive as OP's annual sales.
