Just watched Fusion Reborn. I must've only watched this movie once, as well. Wow, I didn't recall that Chris Rager was King Yemma, or that Kyle Hebert was Pikkon. It must've been very long since I've watched the underworld and otherworld sagas...

Just watched Wrath of the Dragon. This finalizes the movies I wanted to rewatch. I'll revisit the movies again in another decade.
Wrath of the Dragon had the best animation quality, and reminds me a lot of Princess Mononoke's quality, as well.

I grew up with DBZ, so nostalgia goggles are on, and I still hold it dearly. The individual that I am now in 2025 is not the same individual that watched DBZ on Toonami in 1998. I enjoy what is, as is, without judgement.
I finished watching Black Clover yesterday, and it seems to take the DBZ recipe up a notch. The experience of novelty also helped reinvigorate the awe that DBZ once had.
From my subjective perspective, DBZ was the gateway for anime in the west, and shows like Black Clover triumph because of DBZ.
These aren't my stories. These aren't my characters. The only action I can take is to enjoy what has been presented. I take what information is advantageous and apply it into my life, If I can, and discard what isn't.
Cherishing what I have been presented with is where the joy is.

When something has the ability to: (A) be used as reference (B) produce ideas, with or without (A) - this leads to all sorts of discussions. Within any given entertainment content, there's bound to be differences in how people approach content. I think a disconnect usually occurs when someone does (B) without being underpinned in some way by (A), but claims otherwise. If a user acknowledges they're going off of nostalgia in a given discussion, there's self awareness and no inherent hostility - in this type of case, the only disadvantage is that it can be hard to use in a debate setting, which prompts (A).
So overall, I can't fault someone for liking one (or more) aspects of entertainment content more than another (or more) aspects, as long as they're sincere about what they are or aren't using as far as (A)/(B) goes.
What I found interesting about Dragon Ball (and other widely beloved Shonen), is that -- although primarily known for action-related hype/execution rather than rich writing -- it can have a much bigger satisfactory impact on someone's life than a series known for the latter.

Can you provide some examples of anime with "rich writing" that I can take a look at to compare with? A quick search leads to the realization that I like Shonen and Seinen equally. Are there any other terms that I need to become familiar with?

Generally, shows that focus on being intellectually stimulating would be considered as having rich writing (aka, being well-written).
What I like about powerscaling is that there are more opportunities for objective analysis. While writing quality seems like more of a grey area. For example, you've determined you have a collective appreciation for not just 1, but 2 entire anime/manga demographics, while others would be more critical of even just 1 alone, having significant gaps between the writing quality of two shows in a given grouping.
I don't want to deviate too far from the initial thread intention by outlining direct comparisons. If you want to look into the writing quality of the DB films you've watched, we can do that. But for anime comparisons at large, I'd suggest viewing the General Anime & Manga section.
