Part 1

Do you guys prefer reading it over part 2? I find I can blitz through it a lot faster.

Speaking of which, @Kamikaze Pyro you still have to read it.

I like them both equally. I appreciate Part 1's greater focus on actual martial arts, and that Goku is only a human rather than an alien, but Part 2 is awesome in it's own way, with the Freeza Saga being my favorite in all of Dragon Ball.

Also Goku after Cell Saga (I'd say his decline started in the Cell Saga though) is not good anymore.

I usually enjoy reading it more than I do part 2, since I am not as used to it. I rarely get myself to read it, though.

 

[Future Warrior]

I like it a lot more in that it takes more focus on Martial Arts and technique. Everything in part 2 prioritize on transformations and physical strength. Part 2 isn't bad, but it's got nothing on Part 1.

 

[Alin]

Part 1 is definitely my favourite portion of the series. It's more about adventure and character development, I think. The fights are also more competitive as are Goku's rivalries. I remember watching Yajirobe's debut in like 2009, and I was like "holy shit! How will Goku possibly surpass him?"

Early DBZ (Saiyan, Freeza) was great, but after the editor-influenced second half of Z I find "Part 2" went too downhill.

While I do agree they TEND to focus more on strategy in early DB somewhat, it still ultimately comes down to who's faster and stronger since there's literally not one case of a weaker fighter beating a stronger fighter without psychic powers or the Mafuba, so that never bugged me personally.

Some feats in Part 1 do not match up with the rest of the series too, like how Taopaipai was dominating Galu as soon as he whipped out his sword despite being no match for him, and stuff like Piccolo having slight difficulty with :Krillin and tanking the Super Kamehameha were bullshit that makes some of the plot holes in later Z blush. Plus, Roshi hid his strength for the entire first half of the series when he could easily solve everything....

I swear I thought there was at-least one fight where the weaker fighter did win, but I can't remember.

But I guess Dracula-Man vs Kuririn can count, too or almost Yamcha vs Suke-san (almost).

I guess, but those were kind of like gag fights. Plus they weren't important at all, whereas Z has a few significant victories where the stronge guy lost, like Vegeta losing to Goku and the Earthlings, or (technically) SPC vs. injured SSJ2 Gohan.

True, but I'd also count Master-Roshi (he didn't feel like it) defeating Goku at the 21st Tournament. He wasn't that much lower, but still in my opinion.

I think he would've won right away if he went buff and blasted Goku at the beginning of the fight, so that doesn't count for me 1 1
