Piccolo's line during his fight against Frost

So, as you can see here, during Piccolo's fight against Forst, he stated that he wasn't a Namekian and was rather a reincarnation of Demon King Piccolo...

But isn't that a regression of the character, considering that, even though he still didn't want to take a peaceful life like the Namekians, he 'embraced' his Namekian heritage and even mentioned to Cell upon fusing with Kami how he wasn't King Piccolo?

^ In this page you can even see how Piccolo stated he himself is a Namekian, and not Piccolo... which is pretty much the opposite he said in his battle against Frost.

Piccolo already contradicted this when telling Goku to keep calling him Piccolo after Goku recovered from the Heart Virus, so it's no more of a contradiction than Piccolo contradicting his identity in the span of a single arc.

Him telling Goku to call him Piccolo stems more from the fact that he knows he is more easily recognisable as Piccolo by the others. The Super situation is different because he is the one to recognise himself as Piccolo and not embrace his heritage, which he was shown not to do in the Cell arc.

I personally take that as dumb fanservice by Toyotaro, as an attempt to please the Piccolo's fans who used to like the badass one who identified himself as a Demon. Him calling himself a demon in front of Frost isn't congruent with his post Kami depiction, unless you argue he wished to make himself imposing besides Frost by saying that.

Saiyan passport would probably give Goku to benefit to participate in more fights, so I can see that happening with how autistic about fighting he's become in Super.

Piccolo is just trying to sound cool. He was complaining just moments before that he had been reduced to trash because he could only make Frost waste stamina.

It seems not much thought was put into the line beyond wanting to make Piccolo look cool and different from others Namekians. To be fair, he is correct about the reincarnation part at least.
