Reading the manga first

Did anyone else go about One Piece this way? It caused me to mispronounce some of the names, Luffy is a major one that comes to mind. I pronounced it like Luff-eee (luff like tough but with an L), and still can't get over the fact that it's Loo-fee.

I used to pronounce it as Luhfee as well but saw the anime before I moved any farther than the Don Krieg arc so it wasn't a big problem.

I've only seen Marineford in the anime. Not sure if I pronounce anything wrong. I don't know how to pronounce Usopp. I just say Oooh-sopp

I pronounced it wrong even though I started with the anime. A lot of the time I don't really pay attention to the pronunciations or at least don't remember them if I'm watching with subtitles. Like O never noticed the pronunciation of coffer being kohee or whatever until Kyouks made a joke out of it. Only started saying Luuffy once I met another OP fan but even now I still end up saying Lu-fee about half the time.

What about Zoro in the manga? Volume I read a tiny bit of in a library once had it transliterated as Zolo....actually I'm pretty sure at least one of the English language dubs had it pronounced Zoe-loe.

One thing that always irked me just a little was how people write Vegeta's name as Bejita when I'm pretty sure the original dubs of DBZ and Super and the Funi, Ocean and AB Group (?) dubs of Z all pronounced it as Vejeeta.

When i started reading the manga, you could watch 3 parts of the latest episode on youtube if you were lucky. Funimation hadn't secured the license after the 4kids debacle either.

When I was in High School I ended up watching the Anime in the English dub. When I caught up to the English dub I switched to Japanese. I planned to switch to the Manga once I caught up, but personal issues such as medication and psychiatric problems as well as dealing with school at the same time prevented me from doing so. I started One Piece again once I got my life more under control. But yeah, I ended up watching the Anime until the end of Punk Hazard, then left it on hold. It was for the best, because Toei fucked up royally with Dressrosa.

I remember making a "Luffy the pirate slayer" joke to my friend and that's how I found out the name was pronounced differently than Buffy's name.
