Significance: More or less a confirmation that Gohan lost his Ultimate state, which he received in the Majin Boo arc. When he finds himself unable to tap into his full power, he resorts to Super Saiyan instead, which as we see is more than enough to handle Tagoma. Nothing to worry about, folks!

Even if Freeza doesn't know about it, it does makes sense for Gohan who lose his ultimate power therefore he can only turn into a Super Saiyan at best. I didn't watch the FnF arc though so I could be wrong.

Gohan made note of being angry iirc, plus his hair seems to be that of his SS2 self, so I'm inclined to say SS2. I doubt his aura would be much of an indication, since :toei have been notorious with being inconsistent or ignorant to the lightning aura of the SS2 form.

I don't remember him every saying he was angry. He just said he had no choice but to go Super Saiyan and he did.
