Whitebeard was stated to be the only man equal to Roger.

Didn't Garp almost kill Roger many times? Also Whitebeard is called the strongest man alive even back then, so I'd assume in most cases he'd beat Roger.

The official translation doesn't have that line. It mentions that Garp cornered Roger many times, which could mean anything. I do believe they are quite close but Roger is definitely the stronger of the two.

Whether the second one is a mistranslation by Viz or the fanslation, I can't be sure. When my knowledge of Japanese is further along I'll look into it.

This statement makes it seem pretty clear that Whitebeard was the only equal to Roger:

Shiki, who was another close rival even admitted it was Whitebeard's age now that Roger was dead.

I think given that it took both Garp and Sengoku to beat Shiki, Garp can at maximum be on Shiki's level.

Fair enough, but you didn't address the main crux of my argument.

''Whitebeard attained the title of ''strongest in the world'' well before the great age of pirates, as he had immense power and ability that could destroy the world''.

Primebeard.PNG

This either means that nobody in the world surpassed him in power, or this title he was given isn't meant to be objective and is based on hearsay/rumors. It's possible the latter is true, I can't deny that. If it's the former, this puts him above Roger even if it's by a SLIGHT amount.

I will say though the evidence you brought forth is hard to for me to argue against. I will say for certain that Roger and Prime Whitebeard were definitely on par with each other. Other than that I have no strong opinions with Garp and Shiki other than that they were probably close to those two as well.

Rocks should have been above him though, which makes me think that statement should be about his general power + ability as the translation suggests. Regardless of if he was the strongest at one point early on, it seemed clear that he wasn't by the time of God Valley. Roger, Garp and maybe Roger's crew beat Rocks, WB, Big Mom, Kaido, Shiki, and more. If Whitebeard was the strongest one around there's no way to make sense of this.

WB may have been stronger than Roger in the past, but Roger definitely caught up by God Valley at least. I think they were equals from that point on.

Maybe. If I had to guess, he got his devil fruit at a pretty young age.
