As the title implies, what's your favorite DBZ related media that gets ignored or shit on but you enjoy it anyway? Not something broad like Super or GT as a whole, but particular arcs, movies or battles. For me, its Bio Broly. Nothing great or ground breaking, but when I was a lot younger I would watch this one a lot because of not only the Broly aspect but I enjoyed, and still enjoy, having 18, Goten and Trunks as the leads rather Goku, or Vegeta or Gohan to a lesser extent. It felt like more of DBZ movie with a sci-fi twist. And I watched it long before the Boo Saga came out (I torrented it in like 2002 or so, I believe) so it was my only window into the later years of DBZ for a long time.

I also like SSJBE and the stuff with Vegeta on Yardrat from Super, but I don't hold it in nearly as high regard.

Maybe SSJ2 Trunks and Blue Goku vs. Black and Future Zamasu. A lot of people shit on it for the terrible power scaling of Trunks and Zamasu keeping up with Blue tier opponents only to go back to SSJ2 level when they fight by themselves, but the choreography was great enough that I didn't take particular issue with it.

I also kind of like the "Whoa! You actually kissed her?!" moment in the anime because I liked anime Future Mai's characterization although them cementing in the manga that Goku has literally never kissed a woman (and making her a background character) soured the moment for me in the manga.

Other than that, most of the stuff I like in the series are generally well received by fans.

At least in the anime, I felt like Zamasu was shown to be the weakest one in the fight. The Saiyans are often shown to be getting the better of him, but either through his regeneration or getting saved by Black, he's able to keep up. Also he uses sneak attacks when Black has one of them distracted. Given this, I didn't have too much of an issue with him hanging in there the way he did.

He is shown trading blows with Blue Goku rather than getting straight up stomped though, unlike say when final form Frost fought SSJ Goku. And since Trunks didn't get his Rage form yet he should be far below Rose Black and yet took a sword swing from him and kicked him in the stomach anyway but again, the choreography for the scene made up for it. Plus we'd seen the ol' Goku and Vegeta reluctantly teaming up thing many times in the Coola and Janemba movies and in the Boo arc so I'd have had more issues with Trunks just getting raped by Black to start off the fight and the two Blue Saiyans teaming up yet again.

Shadow Dragons Arc, I unironically think it's the best finale of any story. Better than the Piccolo stuff in DB, Buu in DBZ and ToP in DBS. It's a "hunt for the dragon balls arc," that serves as a call back to the original arc. It has a great cast of goofy villains, who are surprisingly enjoyable and underrated. It's well paced with the villain of the week format and the mix of action and adventure.

And it's also thematically appropriate with the dragons serving as a subversion of the dragon balls. An idea so good that I half expect DBS will steal it and ruin it too, ala Granolah

I was always mesmerized by the voice actors. Since I was exposed to the Funimation dub initially, it's the dub I hold dear to my heart. The voice actors themselves have come a long way since the initial, original dubbing, and I follow a lot of their work. I believe this group of people who were fortunate enough to be a part of the DBZ revolution that took over the world, is what pushed me towards having a passion for voices and voiceover.

Since I began watching DBZ at the age of ~6, I didn't watch it with any passing judgement. I accepted it for it was, and have loved it that way ever since. I don't care for the flaws.

Garlic Jr Saga for giving Gohan, Piccolo and Gohan a chance to take centre stage and at the time, for Marron. The villain was original for me, since I hadn't seen Movie 1/Bring Me Back My Gohan!!

Fake Namek Saga. Fucking what.

The Ocean dub anime. It had some absolutely cringe moments, but it was highlighted by unreal performances by the likes of Brian Drummond as Vegeta.

The Ocean Dub was only good during the Raditz, Vegeta, Namek, and Ginyu Sagas, however.

Bio Broly is my favorite Broly movie sans DBS Broly as well. The most fluid animation of the original trilogy, and unlike the previous two flicks there is no base Saiyan faggotry to speak of, and very little of a 40 IQ big brute screaming Kakarot because of a crying baby (he only says Goku's name once, and turns to the Swamp Thing shortly afterwards).

If I were to fix Bio-Broly I'd have Bio-Broly be defeated in a strategic manner involving Kurirn's Kienzan and seemingly wiped out by Goten and Trunks' combined Kamehameha, only for his remains to fuse with the culture fluid and end with him becoming giant. And instead of salt water being his weakness (because fuck, being a threat is pretty much out the window on a planet where 70% of its surface is filled with water), high temperature would instead be his undoing as a reference to Gohan's failed plan to kill Broly using lava. Giant Bio-Broly would follow Goten, Trunks and Kuririn to the same place that the original Broly fought Gohan and Goten in, where being exposed to lava causes him to become magma as well, and the combined blasts of the three would end him.

Screw you, I liked the Boo Saga.
Screw you, I liked the Garlic Junior Saga better than the Boo Saga (Although not as much as every other Saga in the Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z Anime though, LOL).
