Bakura killed Shadi before he sent a bunch of the regular Bakura's friends and teachers to the shadows/trapped them in dolls so I'd say Marik. Marik had equal shadow powers to Bakura in Battle City and later gained the Ring, so I think he'll probably win. If Shadi's shadow powers were greater than Atem's I'd think he wouldn't have lost the Shadow Game against him.

mai’s will-power seemed gr9er than marik’s powers tho i think
Don't think she shattered Marik's powers in the manga. In the anime the whole duel got censored to avoid excessive violent imagery so Mai only forgot parts of her memory, whereas in the manga she was literally tortured with the pain of the monsters Marik slew, got electrocuted by Marik's monsters and would've literally died if Ra's attack burned her. Her memory wasn't really affected, she was just in intense pain. Even the Jonouchi duel in the quarter finals of BC got a little bit censored, with Viser Des (which is modeled after a torture device worn on the head) being replaced by the monster Plasma Eel.

It probably healed because she regained her composure, not because Marik's powers were "beaten." Dark Marik lost his head when his monster card was killed by Mai's monster too, but the illusion of the decapitation disappeared when Marik reattached his head in the Shadow Game.

Shadi seemed weak as hell at the start of the manga.
He was a ghost, as seen in Marik's flashback of his father's death. His physical body was already killed.

Bakura couldn't over come Marik's shadow powers either though. That's why they resorted to a Shadow Game, otherwise Bakura would've just killed him and taken his God Card and the Rod, and Marik would've killed him and taken the Ring.

wasn’t pegasus on a table iirc (if i can ask)? if so then maybe they played cards i think.
Doubtful. Bakura didn't show his own Duel Monsters deck in the manga until Battle City. Marik also wanted to simply kill Yugi to gain his status as the "King" in his place, which he felt would free the Tomb-keeper clan. In the manga Marik was going to simply have the Doll kill Yugi once he lost to Osiris, rather than take the Puzzle through the win.

If Marik really didn't know I think Takahashi would've had a more knowledgeable character like Ishizu or Shadi state it I think-I think :donovan

why was that stated prior then that only way to gain possession from previous millennium-item chosen-1 is to defeat them in a shadow-game (if i can ask)?

Pretty sure that's either only in the dub or something added to the anime. Yami Bakura at first demanded that Marik give him the Rod then and there, and Marik then attacked him with his dark powers which Bakura was able to counter with his own power. When you have high enough power to resist someone else's dark power, the only way to ensure you can win their Item is to bury them in the shadows. I would assume Pegasus was unable to put up any sort of a fight against Bakura because 1) Pegasus had already just lost the Shadow Game against Yugi/Atem and 2) Bakura has part of Zorc inside him, so his power would naturally be greater. In the manga Pegasus also didn't want Yugi's puzzle, and merely wanted Kaiba's Duel Disk technology which was capable of producing much more realistic holograms than his duel table, so that he could always be with the illusion of his dead lover.

i think the reason bakura wasn't able to counter marik's powers was because he didn't expect that i think. he was surprised & then after that he was able to paralyse marik i think i think.

But if he was stronger, Marik wouldn't say that "as those chosen by the items, we can only settle this through a Shadow Game." Bakura would've just kept paralyzing Marik and then taken the Rod and killed him, since Bakura has killed Pegasus (in the manga) and Shadi among other people including duelists like Ghost Koizuka (forgot what his name was exactly).
