Even if the concept of the Z-Senshi's past and actions coming back to haunt them in a physical form wasn't as well pulled off as with Cell, it's usage through the Dragon Balls, something that had been there since the beginning, offered a good premise for a final villain of the series and some catharsis for the story as a whole, with them having to rely on their own strength over those of Anime's biggest plot armour.

 

[Spiral-Force]

The wish-granting energy being exchanged for negative energy made the Dragon Balls less haxed, and this revelation gave the Z Fighters the incentive to not overuse them next time, resulting in more reliance on one's strength than external magic. Furthermore, the final villain being the physical manifestation of the darkness that overshadowed the light of the orbs was an interesting twist. Not to mention Black Smoke Shenron's trolling was entertaining and deviated away from the usual seriousness of a Shenron of his position. Other than that, it was nice to see Vegeta ascend to Super Saiyan 4 and be of more use than in previous GT arcs, and the debut of Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta was cool.

Sadly GT has awesome concepts with horrific execution while Dragonball Super has horrific concepts with horrific execution.

Pui Pui said what pretty much sums up the Shadow Dragons Arc (GT as a whole). Good ideas, but bad execution.

Blackstar Dragonballs - Nice little nod to the original Dragonball with little Goku going hunting for the Dragonballs all over again

Baby Arc. - Imo the best arc of GT, a cool idea for the Tuffles a race of aliens wiped out by the Saiyans comeback to enact revenge on the Saiyans even though as far as pure bloods there are only 2 that were known at the time.

Super 17 Arc. - I don't know how this arc could've been good.

Shadow Dragons - The Dragonballs have been used so many times over the course of the series that the gang relied too much on them and now a massive amount of negative energy has accumulated in them and gave birth to 7 evil dragons, each Dragon's power dependent on the wish that created them which resulted in most of them being weak as dirt and some being fairly strong.

Good ideas, bad execution.

GT provided at least some scenes that were badass IMO.

[SSJ2]

Don't remember it very well despite watching it semi-recently. The concept was interesting enough, but they butchered most of the dragons imo. Si Xing Long was the only "decent" dragon.

In topic, it was a good arc. The premisse of the past haunting the Z Fighters is pretty good, and badass moments like Gogeta, SSJ2 Vegeta vs Shenron and the ending were fuckin' great.
