Piccolo says Goku and Freeza are so strong that no one can tell who has the advantage in power. Could this be applied to when Piccolo comments on Majin Vegeta only being slightly ahead of Gohan from back then?

Probably. The gap between the two may be larger than it seems based on Piccolo's questionable judgement.

What I wonder even more is if people would use this to argue against Base Gotenks (post) >> SS3 Goku.

I think that's just a statement used to heighten tension. Goku decided to ask Karin about who was stronger between him and Cell, even though the gap between him and Karin is astronomically bigger than the gap between Piccolo and 50% Freeza.

Also, Karin could only tell that Perfect Cell was slightly stronger than Goku.

So that basically helped my point.

But later Karin says how Goku has no chance of victory whatsoever or something like this. I think the "bit stronger" was probably just to patronize Goku, honestly.

That's a bit odd, considering Kuririn could very well tell Vegeta was even stronger than Semi Cell, as well as Piccolo could tell Gotenks base (pre RoSaT) was absolutely no match for fat Boo. That statement in the Freeza's fight might come off as a little weird to me, so I think Ryan's explanation might work.

Krillin could also feel some of Cell's true power, whereas Vegeta and co could not.

Why would only he feel it though? Especially considering Cell is like millions of times stronger.

Because he was kicked. That kick showed Kuririn Cell's current power output was just the tip of the iceberg.

Yeah, it allowed him to assess that Cell was a lot more powerful than he was letting on. Krillin did say the Chi they were sensing from him was nothing compared to what he felt in that moment he was knocked the fuck out.

Wasn't Piccolo struggling to differentiate 50% Freeza from Goku at one point?

Gohan was also not only able to tell Freeza's ki was increasing as he went up to 100%, but was able to remember it and tell the others that the ki they sensed from Mecha Freeza wasn't anywhere close to his true power. Plus, Piccolo says afterwards in the same chapter that there is too much of a gap between Kaioken x10 Goku and 50% Freeza, so imo that statement really doesn't disprove anything.

I think that Piccolo part was before Freeza went to 50%. The part about them being beyond his comprehension, right? Or the part where both of their Chi feels like it could crush him? He did say they were both monsters as well.

It's the page right before Freeza powers up to 50%.

Gohan was able to tell Goku lost no ki during the warm up fight, but as soon as they got serious I guess their powers were too high.

This is off topic, but why the hell is Piccolo so bruised there? After being healed by Dende he didn't get into any fights other than against True Form Freeza, who didn't hit him at all.

He said it felt like their ki was about to break him apart. I guess he wasn't exaggerating about him and the others being collateral damage.

First of all, I like Viz better here. Gohan looks like he's questioning something, not stating something. But I don't know. Perhaps Piccolo knows they are both still holding back but has no idea by how much. I'd guess he can sense Goku's power just fine.

I think it's worth noting that Piccolo could tell that Gr 3 Trunks > Cell, despite them being miles ahead of him. So it backs up my prior point that Piccolo probably knew Goku and Freeza still had reserves, he just had no clue who had more.
