Hard to say. It's implied SSJ Gohan is above all the Kaioshins when he removes the Z Sword, but Pure Buu considered worth it to absorb. Considering how Elder Kai expected a Kaioshin to release him i think SK just didn't bother to try the Z Sword, so SK one shots due to being SSJ3 Tier IMO.

I thought you were against the idea of Boo absorbing South Kaioshin due to this latter giving him problems and argued his absorptions were kind of random due to Buff Boo also absorbing Dai Kaioshin.

I don't necessarily think he had to have given Kid Boo trouble. If he held-out long enough compared to West and North, while also showing some interesting techniques during the battle, I believe that alone could've prompted Kid Boo to absorb him. We know South Kaioshin had to be much different from the others because Kaioshin even seemed surprised ("somehow absorbed") that he was absorbed.

It being random is something I originally subscribed to, but that seems too simple. 2 of the 5 Kaioshin were killed, the weakest was maimed, the 2 strongest were absorbed. Some logic has to go into that taking place.

Maybe Dai Kaioshin was able to hold Buu with his magic like he did on filler and Buu decided to absorb him. If Shin is considered a mess and can hold SSJ2 Gohan, imagine what the Dai Kaioshin could do.

The question here is whether South tried or not to take out the Z sword... and whether or not he gave kid Boo problems to be absorbed.

If he's strong enough that he can manage something against Pure Buu, then he likely didn't try to pull out the sword. Elder Kaioshin thought a Kaioshin would pull the Sword, so it's not impossible:

Context: after Gohan pulls out the Z Sword, breaks it, and Elder Kaioshin pops out
Elder Kaioshin: “Still…I thought the person who’d pull that sword out and release me would be some Kaioshin…To think that it would be an Earthling…It’s the end of the world!”
Kaioshin: “My…my sincerest apologies…”

And considering how Kibitoshin states Buu managed to absorb South Kaioshin "Somehow", i think he has a considerable power advantage over him.

Kibito speaks of Gohan's power as if it's something other gods are capable of possessing, so if the strongest one of them was weaker than Gohan, then it'd make no damn sense.

I don't think so. He only says Gohan's Ki is incredible, and that's pretty generic.

But again, didn't Kiboto say something like this when Goku turned into a SSJ3?

Wasn't stated Beerus was the one to lock Elder in the Z Sword? I think it's unlikely he'd bother doing this spell.
