Typically we assume a 50% gap is what's needed to tank. I think I finally found a good way to figure this thing out.

So it appears that Freeza uses a standard type of ki blast, probably one with very little amp and perhaps none at all, and then he goes to his go-to move, which is his Death Beam.

I'd say Goku's tank here is reminiscent of Gohan's tank on Cell as well.

We typically like that at a 55% gap or so.

50% Freeza 72.5
~ Ki Blast 72.5
~ Death Beam 82.5

SSJ Goku 150

Death Beam is 55% of SSJ Goku.

What’s weird to me though is that the death beam has a piercing effect. Don’t you think that it would do more damage to Goku considering?

That could definitely be a factor here. But from what I've seen, the piercing effect only seems to be applied once it is on par with the fighter. If it's below the fighter, it doesn't seem to do much.

Yeah the piercing effect is power based, not hax like the Kienzan.
Yeah.

So what do you think? Do you think we have figured out exactly where the tanking baseline is or what?

I haven't stumbled onto this idea to go hardcore with it, but I think this is the one.

Maybe but I don't think Death Beam is really a charged attack so it would have around the same pl as Freeza's normal ki.

But that can't be true.

1. Goku tanks Freeza's regular ki blast.
2. Freeza attacks with a Death Beam, Goku dodges them all, Freeza says, "If only I could land one!"
3. Goku obliges Freeza and lets him hit him with one.
4. Goku tanks it.
5. Freeza is shocked.

Freeza clearly expected the Death Beam to do something, whereas he knew his other blasts couldn't do anything. Goku is physically affected by it, whereas the blast from before were not.

This is undeniable proof that Death Beam is indeed amped and is superior to a standard ki blast.

We also see this proof for when Freeza uses it versus Goku in the beginning of their battle.

So we’re locked in for Cell being 55% of Gohan?
Yes I believe so. Freeza’s Death Beam vs SSJ Goku seems to indicates that there is a fine line between tanking and slight movement.

It’s a new idea and one we have to dig into a bit but I believe it confirms our original assertions.

The question is how strong is 50% Freeza in comparison to Goku and how strong is Death Beam?

50% Goku 175/180
Death Beam 200/205
SSJ Goku 375

This is where I’m stuck at right now. It’s quite possible I think it’s probably best if Death Beam is 205 because that makes it 54% or so…

And just figuring out if I want Freeza at 93 or 96% of Goku.

I think I’ll just keep it at 200 just for aesthetics though.
