Firstly it's extremely they got stuck like that. It was very funny, thank you @Oda (I know he browses this forum, or at least he wishes he could. He found it and was like "damn it, I should've paid better attention in English class!")
Then Luffy pushed the buildings apart. Zoro cuts the chimney open, and possibly it also cut the entire building?
So I have two questions:
1. Could Sanji have escaped too? He has no elasticity to create rotational force in a tight space. And no swords. Good thing it wad these two and not Nami or Usopp. Chopper might escape using rumble balls, but then he'd go on a rampage, poor guy. What a waste of rumble balls!
2. Who lived in those buildings? Did they die? Did the insurance pay out? Usually the city is submerged and the building's contents is safe, because it's a waterproof building, surely. But they messed that up. This is like that crappy movie Bad Boys 2, where they drive through a Mexican slum near the US border (is there really a big slum right there?). Created like 500 homeless people in 10 seconds. Turns out we can create life after all.
