Moria unironically had one of the best intros to a villain within One Piece with how his casual nature of just relaxing even with the Straw Hats in his midst showed how little of a threat he considered them coupled with him casually blocking Luffy's attack with a mere shadow. It may have been downhill for him from there, but he had a lot going for him in his hayday.
Also, even though it's non-canon, one of the routes in Pirate Warriors 2 has him killing Whitebeard. Can't wait for Yonko tier Chad Moria to get his revenge against Gear 5th Luffy .
He also surprisingly isn't a one dimensional villain at all. It's implied his use of zombies was a coping mechanism after losing all of his nakama during the battle with Kaido, so he created allies out of shadows that would never leave his side again. He even was happy to see weak ass Absalom safe and sound when he infiltrated Blackbeard's turf.
