This Forum's Consensus On The Cell Saga

I decided to create an opinion thread on the Cell Saga. I've noticed that while Saiyan & Freeza get a ton of love among serious fans, and while Boo gets a ton of hate among serious fans, the Cell Saga has always been a subject of mixed opinions. Personally I can't decide on whether it's closer to Saiyan & Freeza or whether it's closer to Boo in quality, as I've always had varying opinions on its general quality, so I guess it's in the middle ground for me personally. There are also some fans out there who go on to say that it's even better than Saiyan & Freeza, but while I do hear people say they dislike it more than Boo, that's a rather uncommon an opinion to have in general. But overall, what are your thoughts on the Cell Saga?

I voted close to Saiyan and Freeza.

Considering the editor woes AT had to deal with it turned out pretty decent imo, just not quite as good as the majority of what came before it.

Boo arc is still my least favorite in the Z portion but I don't hate it.

I agree with some of the woes the editor made, like Android #19 and Android #20 being the final villains, because having two Story Arc villains would have been boring, but some others like complaining about #17 and #18 replacing them were more controversial, especially since #16 had the potential to be the final villain instead. His complaints over Cell were also over the top, especially since he didn't really need to have more forms in general, and rushing Semi Perfect Cell to transform made him too underwhelming a transformation after he flew past #16 so quickly and tanked his punch.

Mediocre cross between DBZ and Terminator. Still better than anything in DBS and GT except maybe the Broly movie, but the Cell and Boo arcs were definitely the weakest in Toriyama's manga.

At least the character art was good, the anime's fluidity/on model animation and pacing were better than on Namek and Gohan becoming the MC was well done here.

Semi Cell being AT's favorite form of Cell makes it suck even more his editor told him to rush that.

It's surprising though because Semi Cell seems to be most fans least favorite form, but AT loved it and he definitely wanted him to stick around longer. My favorite was Imperfect. His bug look was the most interesting.

Gero and 19 being the main villains would have been a little underwhelming than what we ended up with, but silly shit like that was always up Toriyama's alley.

I'm glad 16, 17, 18 and Cell were added in general but it probably put AT through the ringer creatively a bit.

Part of the reason Semi Perfect Cell might be fans' least favorite form was actually because he was rushed really, because I know people out there who really like that form too, just not as much compared to if he was actually handled better.

I can’t not like the Cell saga. Some of the hypest moments, like Trunks’ first appearance and Gohan’s transformation/defeating Cell. Trunks’ warning also sticks-out to me for example. The anime did well.

By far the best saga. Some would even call it, Perfect.
