I found this. Obviously merchandise money & so-on is counted I'd think, because you know they do make money off their series. This is how much tax they paid said year & so it's a richest people list. In the category manga-ka are listed-in it's like a cultural-figures category or some-thing, so I guess anyone that creates things (that aren't music-artists because those entertainers have their own list), maybe? Like painters, ceramic-artists, composers, lyricists & so-on. I listed them by their over-all rankings in their category, so for example Rumiko Takahashi in 1983 is no.5 despite being the highest manga-ka on the list.

In 1980 both Fujiko Fujio took places 4 & 5 (171,910,000 & 171,350,000).

18. Naoki Urasawa - 61,770,000 (OOOOOH YEEEAH!!!)
That Dr. Slump money though!!!

I saw some other website, but out-side of some-thing some numbers didn't line-up exactly, but they seemed like typos (since I can see those typos happening) so I'm not sure which one is right but I think this is fine.

Was AT already evading taxes in the mid 80s-90s? He doesn't appear at-all despite DragonBall & I guess some people have people who better manage their money so they can keep more of their money so it doesn't exactly go by who is richest maaaaaaaybe.

Nobuhiro Watsuki paid US$1890 in taxes.

So that was Toriyama before Dragon Ball. Already a "rich man". If only they knew.
That is an insane amount of tax though - like 80%? Japan's highest income tax rate is only 45% though and corporation tax is 8%. Wonder how it worked out so high.

And how did he just disappear from the rankings in most of the 80s and most of the 90s?

u do the math (if you can & want to)

pre-1983 it seemed they reported the total (taxes & all), after that they did the highest tax-payers. also got no idea, i heard he might have got a good accountant. maybe he had the same accountant he did when he got the tax-evasion thing happen to him, but that'd be a looooong time.

Thanks for sharing this exciting list. It's always fascinating to see how much money people make and how much they pay in taxes. It's unsurprising to see some of the big names in manga, like Fujiko Fujio and Rumiko Takahashi, on the list.

I wonder how much their rankings have changed as the industry has evolved. Sadly, we spend so much on taxes and basic needs. Luckily, there are services like checkstub creator, which help me to manage my taxes and other expenses. Do you use anything for that?

Rumiko Takahashi is such an underrated Mangaka. Mad respect for her tax paying to the Manga industry.
