So let’s say Vegeta never learned how to make that artificial moon. How would things have played out?

With Goku being fatigued, the gap would likely remain the same. Gohan and Kuririn would rush to help, though they'd be of little aid and Goku would have neither the stamina to keep up the fight nor the opportunity to launch a Genki-Dama. Vegeta eventually kills them all, heads in his pod, destroys the Earth from space and heads to Planet Freeza #79 before going to Namek. Things then go the same until he reaches Namek, in which his Zenkai would be far less. He'd be far more secretive in his actions than in canon due to not wanting to even fight Dodoria, focusing purely on getting one Dragon Ball to ruin Freeza's plan. He wouldn't risk using a Power Ball as he'd be unable to deactivate it and leave him open for Freeza to find. Eventually, his actions would lead him to Saichoro's house and things go one of two ways:

1. Nail kills Vegeta, as well as Dodoria and Zarbon when they inevitably show up. Freeza soon arrives and Nail is killed. With Vegeta having ruined Freeza's plans by hiding the Dragon Ball, Freeza doesn't get his wish and destroys the planet. He continues his rule unless Babidi crosses his path, Beerus wakes up, he finds Broly's planet or Moro wakes up.

2. Seeing how desperate their situation is, Nail and Saichoro devise a plan. They tell Vegeta they will help him and that only the Namekian language can be used for a wish. Saichoro then awakens Vegeta's potential and he eventually tracks down and kills both Dodoria and Zarbon. Freeza eventually summons the Ginyu Tokusentai, though Vegeta has grown strong enough to kill them all by the time they get there. Believing himself a Super Saiyan, he goads Freeza into challenging him whilst Nail approaches Freeza's ship and adds the last Dragon Ball to make a wish. Vegeta evenutally forces Freeza to transform, and be it his 2nd form or higher, Freeza eventually overpowers Vegeta and holds him up. As he does so, the sky turns black, with Freeza rushing back to the ship and bringing Vegeta. By the time they do so, the sky returns to normal. Vegeta believes he has become immortal and fights Freeza, but is quickly killed. In actuality, Nail's 3 wishes were to make himself immortal, revive all Namekians and have them fused into him to make one Super Namek (though I'll still call him Nail for simplicity). Nail kills Freeza and after Saichoro dies, he creates some eggs to slowly repopulate the Namekian race. When Cold inevitably shows up, he too is killed and his empire is destroyed.
Nail then continues to defend Namek from any threats that should befall it. When Moro decides to escape and target New Namek, however, he would lack the power to stop him. His immortality would cause him to constantly regenerate and regain stamina, though Moro would keep draining that power. Eventually, Moro would drain all of Namek's energy and destroy the planet and whilst Nail would survive, he wouldn't be able to catch up to Moro, who would continue to eat all life in the universe unless Beerus awakens. Either way, Nail is left alone, all he knew having been destroyed. When Beerus does awaken, he would begrudgingly accept to become his successor. All this is for naught in the long run, with the lack of the ToP meaning Zen-Oh would one day destroy all but 4 of the universes.

Listening to JFK talk about President Diem in South Vietnam two months before authorising his assassination is pretty insane.
