I mean, people use Bulma's quote that Trunks isn't much stronger than one armed Gohan, someone who can't even sense Ki. Why is it suddenly doubtful when Piccolo makes a a statement that doesn't even contradict Vegeta's?

I was gonna say what Clearin said about the time (machine), so refer to that.

The Bulma line is all we have in that case, people go with it because of that alone.

What Piccolo says is not doubtful, there are simply different ways to take his statement, which is all that's up for debate.

1)Overall, Piccolo was more reliable when it came to ki sense. And DB's characters in general have good memory. And how Piccolo would forget something that incredible, the moment his best friend became not only the strongest out of the Universe, but also defeated Cell ?

2)A stupid ki sensor ? So, because he was wrong once, he should be wrong for everything ? And I recall that Vegeta underestimated people several times. Hell, his statement doesn't even contradict Vegeta's, just that he's slightly less sure of Vegeta's superiority. Vegeta is more sure, but doesn't state a huge gap.

Conclusion : Vegeta is stronger than Kid Gohan, but certainly not by far.

Goku is not >> Gohan or >= Gohan, he is > Gohan

So because you don't agree with a statement the author wrote one of his characters saying, that it means nothing?

Vegeta's statement only said that Goku was stronger than Kid SSj2 Gohan, but never specified. Piccolo's statement made it specific, that the amount wasn't huge. Almost anytime a character makes a statement like "Y might be even stronger than X", it tends to mean that while they are in the same general tier, that Y still retains a small edge.

Really not that hard of a concept to grasp.

Personally, I put SSj2 Vegeta (Pre-Majin) as moderately weaker than Kid SSj2 Gohan. Up until Goku went full power he was never stated to have surpassed kid Gohan in SSj2. Meaning that the burst of power against Yakon that alarmed Vegeta was still at best slightly below kid Gohan.

Now that doesn't mean Vegeta was weaker than that SSj2 burst, but it does imply that it was very close to his full power, with Vegeta knowing that Goku would have much more to offer once he got serious.

Something like this:

SSj2 Goku/SSj2 Majin Vegeta: 110-115
SSj2 Kid Gohan: 100
SSj2 Goku (Burst): 90-97
SSj2 Vegeta: (Pre Majin): 90
SSj2 Teen Gohan: 80

Jack made a huge point about Goku SSJ2 ( "burst" ) being equal to Kid Gohan SSJ2.

The burst doesn't necessarily have to be any specific strength. It's very powerful for sure.

I prefer the = Kid Gohan route as I feel the narrative flows best that way, but anywhere between PM Vegeta and Gohan if you've got a gap between the two is probably okay.

PM Vegeta - 90-95

When does he say that? Can't find it in Viz.

Goku/Majin Vegeta 112
Kid Gohan 100
Burst Goku 100
PM Vegeta 90
Teen Gohan 80
Dabra 80

Looks about right; Dabra being 88% of Pre Majin Vegeta seems a small gap but is enough to Vegeta beat him without much problems.

PM Vegeta is at 90% of Kid Gohan. Can Vegeta win this?

I think at 90% Kid Gohan would beat him most if not all of the time. I generally have him closer but I think I'm okay with this too.
