What was the "Z" supposed to signify in "Dragon Ball Z" when the manga was initially released?

I've never asked this question before, and I've never looked for an answer. Surely, someone on here can enlighten me.

Because it’s the last letter in the alphabet.

In the original manga it’s all the same though (DragonBall). The English translation added that to the manga too, even-though it was a name only intended for the 2nd part of the anime.

So, why is Dragon Ball 3 called Dragon Ball Super? Why is the third part of the story "super?"

Seems like Toei just decided to call it that when they wanted to make a sequel to Kai

Like hure said (ok...just looked up what that means), the Z/Zeta I believe is because Z is the last letter of the alphabet. It's the end of the series, so it's part Z - ie the final part.
