Yeh. Well I'm done with FMAB. Skipped a lot, like almost all of Briggs. HxH and DBZ I'm watching properly.

Rewatching Neon Genesis Evangelion now that it's been added to Netflix. Seems they changed the ending song from Fly Me to the Moon to one of the series' instrumental osts though. Fuck you copyrights! :brother

I'd rather watch the Moro arc animated 200 times in a row instead of rewatching NGE once.

Started watching the Vinland Saga anime. It seems to be going in chronological order rather than starting in media raes, which is a good decision in making some the events in Thorfinn's past have a lot more impact on those who haven't read the manga. The CGI is apparent at some points, but isn't overused like with Berserk 2016-17 or Souten no Ken: Regenesis and unlike them and the CGI moments in the recent DB movies, actually blends in well with the 2D art and looks pretty good.
In other words, off to a good start and already cementing itself as the one worthwhile anime of 2019, not that such wasn't obvious from the start.

The choice on an Opening song is :trash though. Very unfitting for a historical anime about Vikings.

Ok yeah it's mad fucking stupid lol.

Setting makes zero sense, Deadman Wonderland is a prison where people engage in bloody gladiatorial sport and the gimmick is that no one believes it's real and it's all special effects and shit (but like super realistic bro). But then they try to make it seem like there are human rights activists against this shit, so do they know it's not fake? Moreover, people who are imprisoned for petty crimes (or at the very least, people who aren't given the death penalty) participate in these games too and also die, and yet no one in the outside world questions it. I suppose they make really certain to pick prisoners with no loved ones or any party at all who would be interested in their release?? Even then, you'd notice that no one who gets sent to this prison ever fucking makes it out. And clearly not a single person makes it out, else the anime would make even less sense since these people would more than likely raise a stink about the place and try to expose it. The fact that there is no scrutiny whatsoever about this place because random people in power can just "throw funds at it" and because the stupid generous populous thinks it's all CG or some shit is retarded lol.

Even each individual episode struggles to maintain its own internal consistency. And it's so fuggin edgy. The soundtrack's aight tho. Edgy af, but aight.

Tried to tolerate the new Saint Seiya remake on Netflix.

- No Japanese dub as an option. Well, that's setting the bar pretty low already.
- The translation for this English version of Pegasus Fantasy is terrible. At least it's not like they did a 4kids-esque tactic of changing the opening to some dumb song completely unrelated like the Knights of the Zodiac rendition of the franchise, but saying it's better than the bottom of the barrel isn't saying much.
- Seika has unlocked her Cosmo. How did she do this when the series establishes intense training or life or death situations are needed to even slightly awaken it? Also, what's the point in giving her this or making her plot relevant when she didn't even appear outside of flashbacks until the Hades Arc and was a goal for her brother Seiya to find prior to that? Also, she's been renamed Patricia. What was the point when it's not as though Seiya's Japanese name was changed?
- A squad of gunmen attempt to steal Seika and Aiolia eventually takes her away. Why bother making this change when Mitsumasa being the one to separate the siblings gave Seiya a reason to disdain him and Saori, which made later plot twists quite impacting?
- Also, the task force acknowledge Aiolia is a Gold Saint and still try to attack him. Even regular Saints are capable of toppling the armies of past empires and can create huge craters from just a punch, and Gold Saints are notorious for moving at light speed and taking attacks capable of destroying a galaxy. How did a group of several gunmen and a helicopter expect to do anything to him? :cena
- On the subject of Aiolia, him being revealed to be a Gold Saint from the start ruins what should have been a later reveal that holds some weight when in the anime and manga, Aiolia had been previously shown as a role model for Seiya and the reveal of him serving the Pope came as a shock to Seiya. Good luck having any of that happen now.

And that's only from the first 5 minutes. Needless to say, I didn't waste much time in dropping it, before even attempting to get to genderbent Shun. :facepalm

Re-watching FMA:B (think this makes the 4th time I've watched it). Currently on episode 5.

Why watch the badly paced beginning when you can just read the first 8 volumes of the manga for the non rushed version?

I honestly have no problem with the pacing of the first few episodes, at least not as much as many. I concede the manga and 2003 version did better in building up for the initial emotional moments, but it definitely isn't close to being unwatchable by comparison, particularly when FMA:B found its own way to rework some events rather than doing a complete poor man's version (eg. the initial episode allowing for an introduction to Mustang and the limits of his powers that tie into the wider plot arguably better than his introduction in the manga).

I found the early episodes terrible, honestly. I don't even see why they rushed them when 2011 HxH stayed mostly true to the manga's pacing despite the existence of 1999 Hanta.

The manga doesn't have Isaac McDougal.
