Yu Yu Hakusho. On top of having a great cast, epic fights, and emotional moments, it is one of the best anime adaptations you can find. The Dark Tournament was great, and Chapter Black was one of the best story arcs in an Anime I’ve ever seen.

Dragon Ball Z dominated from 1990 to 1993 but started to fall off during the Boo arc due to fans not liking the sudden shift in direction especially sidelining Gohan, who was built up to be Goku's successor, and it fell off even further with GT.

YuYu Hakusho or Sailor Moon took its place but YYH ended in 1994 and SM had a lackluster final season that led to its cancellation.

Then Neon Genesis Evangelion came and changed the industry forever.

Gundam Wing is also the gateway Gundam series for westerners during the late '90s.
