Choose to remain ignorant?

This is something that's been bothering me more and more as time goes on. They watch the god awful dub of the god awful anime just because it's what they grew up with. They just can't get rid of their nostalgia goggles.

I don't care as much now, but I used to hate having to read subtitles as I watched, which I'd say is somewhat valid. Other than that, there's really no reason to watch the dub. Hell, the entire Viz manga is out there on manga fox.

Because that's what makes them happy. Doesn't bother me. I got bigger stuff to think about than what people do during leisure time.

As long as they're fans, that's all that matters.

Casual fans probably ask "Why do hardcore fans get so ridiculous over this shit, it's a friggin' cartoon for fuck sakes!" Lol

I like the dub better. Guess that makes me a scrub.

What? Nobody wants to watch jap dub for fun lol.

Fuck no, the music is usually creepy, there are long moments of silence, and the voices aside from Frieza are usually silly.

Falconer forever!

It's important to remember that not all Dragon Ball "Casuals" are actually anime and/or manga fans. They like DBZ because it's the cartoon they grew up with, and I can certainly relate to that mindset. I'd call myself a Z fan before I call myself an anime fan, since I don't like very many anime, and even less manga.

I wouldn't really watch the Funi dub (at least not the early arcs, Boo was okay when it comes to the dub) I'd prefer to watch Funi's Kai dub. That's much more enjoyable to me than even the manga.

I agree, if it makes them happy then who the smurf cares.

I've been watched the series from Dragon Ball to Dragon Ball Z, ENGLISH DUBBED ONLY! I watch & prefer english dubbed anime only & i don't give a flying blue smurf how accurate the dialog is or how much more emotion japanese subs have or if it makes me less of a fan or not.
I'm the one watching it.
I'll watch whatever the smurf i want too.
However the way i choose to
As much as i smurfin want too.

The only time this matters is if you're looking for accuracy or debating manga.

Seriously all that entire concept of you're the lesser part of the audience if you watch english dubbed anime is such an outdated thought process & an extremely poor representation of the anime audience in general that it's hilariously sad.
That's the 1st thing those that aren't into anime see, not our passion or enjoyment of anime but how we separate & shame everyone based on anime preference.

So lame it's a joke.

I prefer consistency, so I would choose the Japanese Sub or DB Kai Dub. I used to watch the English dub all the time when I was young until I found out about Manga and Japanese Subtitles.

Elitism is never a good thing. It makes people come off like geeky douchebags. Not to mention it's just annoying.

"You like the dub!? Eww! Get away from me!"

Compared to

"You like the dub? That's cool. I prefer the original Japanese version. I hate the dub, but that's just me. Plus I like debating so I like the more accurate dialog and shit."

Which statement sounds less snobish and more friendly to you?

Of course there are two sides to that coin...

Some people who prefer the dub and are casual fans think they know better, and will argue and insult someone who is a hardcore fan who tries to tell them otherwise.

Hardcore, Japanese version loving, accuracy seeking fans will know better as far as debating facts and shit goes, but that's obvious.

So really, elitism can go both ways.

Elitists aren't about what version they like so much as attitude. How overzealous they are about things and how open minded they are to hear other sides and whatnot.

But obviously the hardcore fans will know better than the average casual fan.

But as far as just liking a certain dub/sub/version in general, yeah, no need to shit all over someone for a simple preference.

I prefer the dub, but I know the sub obviously and the manga and Herms work, etc.. etc.. as a hardcore fan myself. But if someone is a casual fan and only likes the dub, it's not a big deal. And if we talk about it or debate, as long as they're friendly and respectful, then who the hell cares.

I agree elitism isn't a good thing & media runs wild with it.
The second statement comes off more friendly & accepting.

"You like the dub? That's cool. I prefer the original Japanese version. I hate the dub, but that's just me. Plus I like debating so I like the more accurate dialog and shit."

People can deal with that.

The thing is the moment someone on social media separates each other based on a person's preference on anything journalism gets hold of it & all of social media is labeled & seen by the public as whining little fanboys that can't handle change.
Look at Ghostbusters 2016, a few on social media said it ruins their childhood & journalism ran wild with it & labeled everyone on the internet under that ridiculous statement.

Yes it can but in situations like that is present the source material as evidence.
Simply say they're arguments are based on content that's been changed from the source.

In short elitsts believe their is the right side.

True, also the term HARDCORE absolutely does not mean exclusive, it is not the same as elitism.
I really wish people would stop mixing them together.

HARDCORE means someone has a better familiarity with something & anyone else can gain that level of familiarity on whatever too IF they're willing to put in the effort.

Exactly, i agree 100%

Me i always prefer english dubbed, i never watch subs & i'd rather wait for the english dubbed version or i won't watch it at all because when i'm watching something i really enjoy i absolutely don't want to miss anything.
I want to see it all & listen to it all & not take my eyes off anything if possible.

2. I do not like the japanese voices for many japanese anime i've seen.
I know ALOT of the english dubbed voices are pretty much the same actors for many japanese anime but to ME the japanese voices don't always fit the characters, the female characters sound too young & the male characters sound too old for many japanese anime i've seen.

3. I love the emotion that many english dubbed anime has.
I feel more emotionally connected & more emotionally interested.

I'm not saying the japanese voices are bad, i'm saying it's not my thing.

English dub in the 2000s was usually horrendous until the last arc. The dub nowadays is fine. Shouldn't pretend there isn't misinformation in either of them though, since the Japanese version they adapt from is already inaccurate to the original work.
