Why does each continuity of BOG/FNF and Super feel so "incomplete?"

A good anime doesn't rush and require you to read the original manga to get the full picture, which is why Kai cutting things like Goku explaining that a second death means Shenlong can't revive you anymore was detrimental, since it's the main reason he became a Super Saiyan to begin with - he thought Kuririn was gone for good. And it's also the reason why rushed as hell animes like Inuyasha Kanketsuhen and the first 13 episodes of FMA Brotherhood were a disservice.

And one big problem (among the other legions and leagues of them) with Super and the new movies is that you need to learn the full context of the franchise through keeping up with AT's interviews and watching and reading each continuity to actually understand the series. The movies were incomplete in that we had to rely on AT's interviews like Vegeta tagging along with Galu to train with Whis to make sure he wasn't getting ahead of him to even know why the fuck Vegeta was training with Whis and Beerus and why he had Blue despite not even being SSJG in the previous movie, not to mention the interviews themselves produced around the time of those movies are incompatible with the later-produced Super anime and manga (SSJ2/3 not being thrown in the trash bin as AT said, the infamous 6/10/15 power scale etc.).

And that wouldn't be so problematic if either continuity of Super was at least complete on its own, yet neither is. Watching only the anime and going onto the Broly movie leaves you wondering why Gogeta is above Beerus despite Vegetto's fairly lackluster performance in the FT arc, and makes you ask why there's no SSJBE or Kaio-ken in that movie, not to mention you have no explanation of Future Mai's backstory, you're forced to just infer on your own unless you read the manga. And even if you did read the manga, the movie adaptation arcs are either skipped over like FnF or basically just a highly condensed recap (BoG), making present Mai's pairing with Trunks feel like it came out of nowhere unless you watched BoG in movie form. And it's even worse in the regard that despite AT working more closely on the manga, it still has its own share of bullshit Toyotaro asspulled that aren't in AT's "rough draft" continuity found in the movies like CSSJB and its own version of SSJBE, not to mention it's so inconsistent that Galu goes from being unable to sense God Ki in base or lower SSJ forms to being able to sense GoD Vegeta's even purer God Ki on the flip of a hat, no explanation... without even getting into how much continuity and OOC moments and errors it has every chapter.

So, since the movies, Super anime and manga, and arguably the new pair of DBS movies Broly and Super Hero are pretty much in different continuities altogether, why does it expect you to watch and know of each of them to get the full picture? That shit is just sad, because most authors (who aren't incompetent) know not to mix up continuities, like the Inuyasha manga not using Soryuha or making references to Sounga, the old DB manga not ever needing you to watch the anime to get the full picture even if Shu/Soba's names got confused due to AT's input to the anime staff, and non-canon movies in general rarely making any impact on any original manga continuities unless you literally have movie characters making cameos with captions asking you to watch the movie in shows like Detective Conan (an advertising tactic more than anything else).

Yep. AT expects you to see that shit too before you read Super lmao. He'll probably make Neko Majin Z canon at some point and force you to read that manga too to understand DBS

That's why you don't hire a fanfic writer to do your manga without giving him an IQ test first (something Toyotaro would surely score double digits on )

It reminds me of the Matrix Sequels which were meant to be taken in by a multi-media, multi-platform experience. There were a lot of things that were left out of Reloaded and Revolutions because you were also supposed to watch the anime collection and play the mediocre video game. The problem is most people didn't do it and as a result were just confused and the movies suffered as a result. Super has the same problem but on a much larger scale because of the vast amount of material one has to consume without built in knowledge.

I'd almost go as far to say Super is split up to appeal to different sorts of fans. The anime is probably meant for the average 13 year old coomer who just watches the show and buys the merch. The movies are for more hardcore fans, and this is clearly where AT and Toei put most of their effort into considering the level of animation quality, script consistency and marketing. Plus the movies have all made loads of money and come with the prestige of favorable reviews and opening in the top 5 at the box office.

Then there's the manga for just the purists. This is probably the smallest audience out of those that I've mentioned.

The ones who suffer the most are those like us who partake on all levels.
