Why don’t manga/anime characters wear watches?

Watches as well as monocles were banned in Japan in 1936 under the imperialistic regime. This is because a Chinese clockmaker — Shan Yuan Chu — designed the movement in most of the imports to Japan. The Shogun at the time, Eiji Shigeru, was racist and hated the Chinese dogs.

Thus, manga characters don't wear watches
