It would be very contrived if we only see the Straw Hats evolve in their fights but these two who are fighting a Yonko don't.

I agree, but I feel like Oda is treating Awakening as their major power up. I can't see them also improvong their Haki to the same degree that anyone else has on top of that.

But awakening didn't amount to anything against Big Mom. Assuming they somehow beat her, they would need something more than what they already have.

Possibly, though it's also possible that she'll leave Wano on her own. What else should they get aside from Haoshoku coating?

Idk, though I will say it would be so trash if Big Mom goes to Elbaf. I'm tired of her and she needs to go down at this point.

I'd like to see Blackbeard kill her, though I doubt it would ever happen. Blackbeard has done fuck all aside from beating the Whitebeard pirates and destroying the Revolutionary Army base.

Luffy being the one to beat Big Mom makes the most sense narrative wise since they had beef with each other since FI.

I agree but him beating two Yonko would be a stretch.

You telling me Kid will be overshadowed even by Luffy's first mate? That is disrespectful beyond words.

Why? Prime Rayleigh was one of the strongest in the verse.

Luffy and Kid are rivals. That’s almost like saying Rayleigh would beat Whitebeard.

I don't think it's entirely the same. Luffy and Kid hardly have any history together at this point. They were briefly together at Sabaody and now in Wano. Roger and Whitebeard fought many legendary battles during their time and had a direct rivalry. I don't see why they should be considered rivals when they've never even fought one another. Kid is one of the strongest pirates of the next gen, but I don't think he needs to be Luffy's equal.

How can you say that? Kid was the only person to pass Luffy's bounty at Sabaody, their dynamic with their first mates are very similar, and they are consistently being compared with each other in multiple occasions.

You can not argue that Kid was not portrayed in a certain way that's different from the other supernova. Perhaps Oda will change his mind about this relationship, but it's clear what his intentions were since the characters conception.

I didn't argue this. I stated that Kid is one of the strongest of the next gen, and by that I mean including Luffy and Law. Luffy and Kid have been competitive with one another, but to me that's not what a true rivalry is. It's made apparent by the fact that both Kid and Law have been subordinate to Luffy during the entire Onigashima raid. Even if Kid and Law do acquire more power ups and beat Big Mom, they'll be doing so together. Luffy is set to take down Kaido on his own, which puts him in a class above the rest regardless of the power ups they get. If Luffy is going to be ahead of them then it can't be compared to the Roger/Whitebeard dynamic, which it was stressed clearly that they were equals. Luffy doesn't have an equal among the next gen.

I guess we just read the story differently. His portrayal with Luffy isn't the same as with Law. Kid isn't going to be Luffy's equal, but his hype suggest that he'll give him a run for his money.

Honestly I don't think we're far off. Perhaps I'm not explaining it well. I simply don't think Kid can be viewed as Whitebeard if Luffy is Roger. Kid will be a step behind Luffy, and though it may be very small, that disqualifies him from being the WB of this generation to me.

Well I'm not saying that Kid will be the Whitebeard to Luffy's Roger, but at the very least the story is making us want to see him in that light at the moment. Oda says he has big plans for Kid, so I'd like to believe that at some point in the arc it will seem like Luffy and Kid are neck and neck with each other. By the end, yeah Luffy will be the stronger one.
