Regarding his choices to release Pokemon every six weeks, which one was able to grind your gears the most?

Pidgeot for me. He had it forever, and it just transformed. No way if that were me. Fuck all those other birds.

I only watched the first 2-3 seasons (Initial, Orange League and a little Johto).
At first thought, i'd say pretty much everything. Ash was a goofy and lazy trainer. He reminds me of Joey Wheeler at Yugioh, who's nothing
special as a duelist, but gets some impressive victories due to his main character hax.

When he released Primeape so early and never came back for it. He made plenty of retarded decisions, but this drove me up the wall.

Well they're REALLY pushing the bar with Serena and Japan is LOVING the thought of Ash & Serena becoming a thing, so much so that they'll storm twitter and make "Amourshipping" a trending topic when something big revolving the two happens or if they aren't pleased with an episode revolving around the two. Even the writers have acknowledged how much the fans in Japan (Let alone international fanbase) love "SatoSere".

Worst decision he's made? I dunno. He doesn't release Pokémon THAT often. He's only released 4 while the others are still technically his but he rarely calls upon them. But even so it's not like Ash released anything special.

- Butterfree didn't do anything impressive
- Pidgeot only had 2 Gym Wins and was overshadowed by the Kanto Starters
- Lapras wasn't bad but we've seen better
- Goodra that was a dumb move. He released a Pseudo-Legendary that never lost a battle and whoop all sorts of ass in the 15 episodes he had it. Although upon reuniting with Goodra he asked if it'd help him in the Kalos League which it agreed to do so, so Ash recaptured it.

I guess not using his reserves in the League that often. With Charizard, Pikachu, Sceptile, Infernape, Snorlax, and Greninja he'd be unstoppable.

His intelligence and experience resetting at the start of Black and White, considering how in the Sinnoh League, he really pulled his weight as an experienced trainer. At least XY Ash is showing his worth to the point that becoming Champion seems realistic now, even if it's purely due to Ash Greninja. Him being so oblivious to the romantic feelings that Anabel or Serena pissed me off as well.

Him releasing his Pokemon doesn't irk me too much. The majority of them had a fair reason towards them in each case, and as far as usefulness, the only one that was really viable as a League level monster was Goodra, who wasn't even truly released.

The fact that he promises to come back for all of them and never keeps that promise when they show up in openings (Pidgeot, Primeape) is pretty gay though. Except for Squirtle and Charizard because they get special treatment.

It's understandable from a financial standpoint, since most of the anime is merely an advertisement for the games, hence why Ash usually sticks to a team of the Region's Pokemon. That being said though, he ought to have reunited with Pidgeot based on that due to Mega Pidgeot.

Most of the original series Pokemon and characters seem to have faded into obscurity it seems, apart from those that accompanied him to other regions. Hell, most of the Kanto Gym Leaders became non-existent after Ash got his badge from them.

Yeah, that's probably the biggest flaw of the Johto region in the anime. Even if Misty's design couldn't be upgraded to the GSC design and Gary couldn't be a leader, they could've allowed new leaders like Janine to make a cameo instead of faggotizing the game canon with Agatha occupying the Viridian Gym and shit like that.

Not to mention that the Johto Elite 4 are non-existent, though considering there was no timeskip for Agatha and Lorelei's resignation, that's understandable. Still, they could've included them as just very strong trainers, like how they presented Wallace even though Steven's still the Hoenn champ and Juan's the Sootopolis Gym Leader.

Yeah, if I were them I'd have either put Will and Karen in the show as allies of Lance during the Red Gyarados episode or allow them to make a cameo during Lyra's appearance in Sinnoh as that part was all about Johto. But the anime never really paid any mind to game mechanics until maybe the DP Pokemon League. They don't even really have an excuse for excluding the old Johto and Kanto characters with BW2's World Tournament and the fact that someone like Clair made a cameo a decade after her first appearance.
