Ah, I was pleasantly surprised to learn Trigun had an animated film in 2010. Just finished watching it, although I might have to watch it again since I was falling to sleep lol. Not to knock on the film; I just haven't been sleeping well lately.
Alright, I watched the parts I slept through. I like the more modern art and animation, but this film was boring, lol. The only remotely memorable part was the new waifu character. I gotta say, Vash's simping was a lot more insufferable here. I can tolerate him following a girl around, begging her to be his, but ... invading her personal space, trying to go in for a kiss, removing her glove and boot so he can rub his face against her hand and foot? This qualifies as sexual harassment, and the movie tries to pass it off as endearing. Huge cringe.
I was already turned off by Vash's goofiness in the TV series, and this movie turns his worst quality up a notch. And the plot's utterly forgettable; the villains sucked (the main villain is more or less a rehash of, what was his name ... *goes on the Trigun Wiki* ... "Brilliant Dynamites Neon" from episodes 7-8). The most memorable aspect about Trigun is seeing Vash do cool shit, but there was none of that here. You never really see Vash's serious, non-goofy side. And there was never a moment where it really felt like he was in danger or challenged by anyone. He's just a dumb simp for basically the whole film, then he easily defeats the main villain right at the end.
Yeah, this film sucked. Cowboy Bebop's film was better. Both come across like glorified standalone episodes, but at least we got to see Spike do what he does best in Bebop's film. I think I'll pass on the reboot series Trigun Stampede. I guess it seems well-made for what it is, but I personally don't care for the CGI look.
