Imo Gen 4>Gen 3>Gen 2>Gen 1> Gen 6>>>>>>>>Gen 5
Platinum is the best game in my opinion. It may have been Gen 4's side game but it was awesome.
Pokemon is still awesome and it might be childish but it still is strategic.
I hated Gen 5. It was a pile of poop and the worst thing in existence. I really hated it

Gen 5 is the best. Diamond and Pearl are disappointing and while Platinum is good, it's slow and ultimately doesn't look as nice as Gen 5. The story isn't as good either. I'd say HGSS are the best entries in the series though. That may change once I finish B2W2.

Gen 5 > 3 > 4 > 6 based on games I've actually completed

If Atlantis was real you weirdos would all renounce your citizenships and move there. You probs have wetsuits and scuba diving gear in your wardrobe, just in case. Your parents are like "son, what is this for?" and you're like "it's a gen 3 thing" and they're like "but on the news they said the generations are named after letters? Son? Son?" but you're not listening any more, because you're too busy whipping your water HM slaves.

Anyway, for me:
Crystal/2 > trading card GBC > White if I hadn't read spoilers about the good plot > Blue/Yellow > trying to play two-player Pokemon Stadium with one Switch controller (doesn't work, cuz each player only has half of the buttons. Trust me, even starting the game and choosing a team is a challenge. I restarted the game - same problem).

Blue/Yellow could be above White. Not played them recently enough.

I dig Gen 2 and I also don't mind playing the HGSS remake either. Both definitely ahead of everything else easily, imo. As for the others, Gen 1 hasn't aged well though the remakes are okayish I guess, Gen 3 suffered from the later and much criticized Gen 5 issue of excluding (almost) all the old Pokemon (though I think Gen 5's new additions are far worse) as well as too much water, Gen 4 was fine but I found the story boring and a bit absurd and too ambitious for a Pokemon game, Gen 5 tried to improve in the story department but I failed to make it to like the third town when I actually played it. Can't speak for Gen 6.
This is funny to read back.

Gen 2 is good but revisiting it is so hard with those barren movepools and that level curve. BW/BW2 are the peak. HGSS is jampacked with content and features but I have way too many issues with it (most of which carry over from GSC). Still top 5. Emerald is good (still a lot of barren movepools). Platinum is good (the map isn’t as elegantly designed as Johto or Hoenn though). XY has great encounter variety and it introduced trainer customization and a ton of QoL for competitive battling, but the base game’s just half-baked. Sun/Moon is cutscene city and the routes are boring to navigate but I appreciate the difficulty spike.

Best? You mean the least worst one, right?
This guy chose Charmander and tried to beat Brock 200 times without levelling up (ok, that's basically an exaggerated version of what I did as a kid)
