1. Vegeta had a ton of pride and been enslaved by Freeza all his life. I'm pretty sure that if he felt confident he could do it by himself, he would try before asking for help.

Vegeta doesn't think he could beat First Form Frieza by himself which makes Gohan's and Kuririn's presence here useful. Against Final Form Frieza, they'd be a hindrance only because he doesn't need them. In fact, they would get in the way because Frieza could strike them down and catch Vegeta off-guard if he chooses to protect them. The case can be made for First Form Frieza as well but I'd wager Vegeta prefers that possibility rather than confronting Frieza all on his own.
