Katakuri's really looks like it. But I wonder why Luffy didn't get the tip there. As for Jimbei, I think not.

Jinbe's looks exactly the same. There's even the same lightning effect when WW broke his finger.

Would be nice if Katakuri expanded on that as that's very little to go on. I'd say that obviously the stronger you are, the stronger your Busoshoku should be, but Jinbe should be several levels below Katakuri.

If this is true, then It's best to think of Haki as a skill tree rather than a linear progression. For example, Sanji might learn advanced Kenbunshoku Haki but it doesn't necessarily need to be Future Sight.

Busoshoku does have definite levels to it tho. But there could be further levels that aren't linear.

There is linear progression for some CoA abilities, but not all. Internal Destruction is an extension of Barrier Haki, but not hardening.

Isn't Luffy vs Doflamingo's clash animated with those black lines too? I think this kind of animation can be misleading sometimes.

It's not just that though. It's the same reaction to the Haki. Normal Busoshoku doesn't seem to break bones upon impact.

Idk. Luffy vs Don Chinjao did seem to have this kind of animation too. I guess maybe Katakuri's haki was just too strong for Luffy to handle? But yeah, he seems to mention some advanced level of Busoshoku. I just find it strange that Luffy never thought back about this instance with Katakuri when learning this vs Kaido, which generally occurs in One Piece, like Robin reminiscing about the times she used this ability she learned during the time-skip (the palms impact thing).

I don't think it's a different form of hardening, but rather their haki is better so their hardening is much harder than their opponents. Katakuri is also using it in conjunction with his Devil Fruit by hardening his mochi fists, so that likely made his armament haki that much more effective.

But why did Who’s Who finger suddenly break when he was able to pierce Jinbe before that?

Because Jinbe is stronger than Doflamingo.

@Future Warrior having reread some of Luffy v Katakuri I'd like to bring this up again. What if Katakuri was using Busoshoku level 2 in these instances? The only difference between these two panels is that Katakuri was physically attacking whereas Jinbe was purely defending, in which it's possible his superior Busoshoku could produce that effect.

When you emit Haki externally. Hyogoro taught it to Luffy.

That's a requirement of level 2 as well. It merely allows the Haki to flow from within your body to outside of it, causing more damage.
