Joe having softened with time and having lost his edginess kinda came out of nowhere to me.
It's actually pretty apparent when taking into account how he fought in his earlier battles compared to his last match with Rikiishi and onward. Back before he became a pro, his fighting style was very wild and unpredictable, lacking mercy to the point he almost beat a guy to death when trying to get his boxing licence. That's quite a far cry away from the more refined style gained from his experience and the more respectable personality he gained from being changed by those around him.
well, isn't that natural from his adapting to the boxing style? he obviously won't be allowed to keep his street fighting style when boxing has more restrictive rules. as for his personality having become more soft over the coexistence with those around him, that's true.

these last episodes going more in depth about the punch drunk syndrome are pretty good in showcasing a boxer's dark side, in which there may be lasting consequences over doing such a risky sport. I feel bad for how Carlos turned out to be and while most appoint that his fight with Joe left him in a poor condition to fight Jose, it's likely that it was Jose's own strength and drilling punch that drove Carlos to that.

Considering the fighting style of his opponent following Yoko making this realisation, that isn't really the case. Yes, improving his skill was essential, but that doesn't mean many of the more unpredictable and vicious elements wouldn't have been capable of being used in a viable way.

Episode 43 was pretty lightheartedly and yet was one of my favorites. Seeing a moment of reflection from both Joe and Danpei from all their path until here is pretty nice and insightful. It was nice seeing them sparring as well, Joe counting to 37 for Danpei to get up was fun. It seems this punch drunk syndrome is affecting Joe tho and the "burn until nothing but hot ashes are left" seems a clue for how it all will wrap.

@CC fair enough.

alright, finished it. I had already watched the ending before, so unfortunately I knew how it would wrap up but it's still pretty good to watch it now with full Intel on the occurrences. joe had almost jose beat. that cross counter and then a triple cross counter at the end was brutal. jose is also pretty damn brutal to have withstood that. and damn, his condition at the end... it looks like he aged 30 years, so he had to pay a very high price to defeat joe.

With Devilman, don't expect there to be no contradictions or anything because the anime not going as long as Nagai thought forced him to conclude the story earlier than expected but overall it should be an enjoyable ride Ahill boy.

Sure! Thanks for the heads up. I'll make a similar thread to post my thoughts on it.
