Akira!

Just came from a midnight showing of this beast, and it was unbelievable. A quick mention about the atmosphere. A about ten minutes before the show, the entire place filled up. This isn't a huge theater, eight screens maybe, but every seat was taken. Right before the movie started, the theater manager walked out and told us the show was sold out. He thanked everyone for the unexpected turnout. Not only that, but they decided to open a second screen to accommodate the crowd and get in the late arrivals. There was applause before and after the movie.

What a great moment for anime fans in general.

As for the film, it was still an experience. It was subbed and in the original Japanese audio. The score was fantastic and haunting. Maybe it was the sound system, but the music and sound effects had as much impact as anything coming out today.

Some of the animation still looked suburb. The scene where Tetsuo hallucinates about the toys in his room blew me away on the big screen. I had two friends with me, and this was their first experience with anime of any kind. They both said it was way better than expected.

So yeah, I have to recommend Akira. It's an easy pick and an old classic, but to see it the way I did was a special experience. And the themes presented in the movie are still relevant today.

This guy knows his business

Yu Yu Hakusho for some good dark action.
Also, Ranma 1/2 and Eden of the East for some funny/romantic anime.

@Son Goku, I saw it at a local theater. They do vintage midnight movies on Saturday nights.

This is quite confusing. Are you asking what we'd like others to get into, or series that we'd like to get into ourselves after hearing recommendations for them?

I'm assuming the former due to the topic's title, in which case, I'd give my common recommendations:

- Hokuto no Ken
- JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
- Space Adventure Cobra
- Ashita no Joe
- Hajime no Ippo (kind've repetitive in the writing in it's later series, though still entertaining)
- Saint Seiya

There's more I'd add if it were manga recommendations, such as Toriko, Kinnikuman and more recently to my discovery, Onanie Master Kurosawa.

As for ones I've been recommended that I want to get into myself, there aren't really any.

Meh, the second season is kinda dumb. I'm pretty much only watching it cause I like listening to their voices. The Seiyuu are amazing on that anime. Granted, the past couple episodes have been a lot better than the handful before them.

Feel more than free to skip Saint Seiya Omega, tho. Highly recomended to skip that.

Don't watch NGE.

it sucks.

bad.

Rebirth of Evangelion is actually pretty good and less emo filled, I would recommend, if you have teh time, to watch Evangelion 1.1 and 2.2. Watching 3.3 is only neccesary if you took a liking and want to know the ending in 4.4. (But seriously, the ending of 2.2 is all you need)

Well, considering it's both non-canon and the Saint Seiya equivalent of GT, yeah (not to mention it's art being terrible). It at least had a good soundtrack though, as well as an OK conclusion, though that's about it.

I'd disagree. I think the second season has been just as good, if not better than the first. But yeah, the Seiyuu are pretty amazing.

Everything is so serious over like the stupidest upset. But I still am enjoying it, opinions and all that. The others of this season are outshining it though.
