Ok. You brought the point about false cognates, like in English and Spanish. False cognates between Spanish and English are much more understandable than the similarity I brought up. As much as English is not of Latin origin, it probably has many words of its own with the influence of Latin and perhaps Greek, while Spanish is a language with a direct origin in Latin. Looking for the etymological origin of several cognates, they will probably originate in the same word from another language (such as Latin).

False cognates are a little more dangerous because of the differentiation of meanings, but they could clearly be words derived from the same word (from Latin, for example) that had their meaning changed with the development of the language.

And the languages in question (English and Spanish) have an evident contact throughout history, since the speaking groups have always existed geographically close.

Uhhh. Yes, yes it does. I'm addressing Wolf's point about the cognates being similar to the similarities between Tupi and Japanese.

The whole point of false cognates is they don't have shared etymology, regardless of how geographically close the speakers of the language are to each other or how closely the languages are otherwise related to each other. If they have a shared development path they are no longer considered false cognates.

Just heard this one
Would you accept 10 million dollars, but at the expense of that for the rest of your life you'll be chased by a deadly slug? It moves at the pace of a slug, but it can travel through water and anywhere to get you and if it touches you, you die.

@Wolf

Nah. If I get 10,000,000 dollars I'd want the freedom to enjoy the money and being rich, not the drawbacks of having my ass chased by a deadly slug. It remembers those rich ass ppl that have to constantly fabricate things and change places because the FBI is on their tails. Money doesn't buy freedom!

@PuiPui

It isn't very expensive. It's 10 reais here, which would be like 2 dollars, if converting, lol. Well, they at least put up some ugly posts in the back of a pack to discourage people from smoking.

It would take a slug about 19 years to travel at 0.03mph 5000 miles. The distance from Brazil to France is over 5000 miles. The distance from Brazil to Japan is between 9 and over 10,000 miles (from Manaus it's about 9800+ miles), the distance from Campo Grande to Canberra in Australia is over 8000 mies. So you would only have to move every 15-30 years, if you were willing to relocate from continent to continent.

Do you know and like these Brazilian songs and musical artists that I know?:

Ludmilla - Verdinha

Ananda, Joker Beats - Quero Que Tu Vá

MC Loma E As Gêmeas Lacração, Os Cretinos - Lacração

El Ultimo de la Fila - Como Un Burro Amarrado

Falamansa - Xote da Alegria (love this one)

Heloisa, mexe a cadeira - Vinny (love this one even more holy shit)

*CHORANDO SE FOI* (LAMBADA) - KAOMA - 1989 (REMASTERIZADO) - guessing everyone knows this one even abroad mostly, very recognisable although I didn't know it was Brazilian

Luka - Sem Resposta (Clipe Oficial) - very beautiful. Don't usually listen to this kind of music any more. Her voice especially makes it different to other stuff I've heard. I guess it is somewhat similar to some 90s American rock/pop musicians like Alanis Morisette or Tracey Chapman

Funnily enough, I don't listen to Brazillian songs too often. I do generally listen to international rock. Still:

The 1st one is easily recognisable by whoever goes to some heavy parties. In these parties resembling night clubs, this one is played too often. It's not one I'd personally listen to but I still think it does a good job in livening up the envoronment. It even got me a liftle melancholic tbh, considering I'm really missing these kind of parties now, being locked in home since March with only scarce go outs.

The 2nd one is less frequently played but still has a beat and rythm that resembles most songs played in parties. I laughed at the explicit swearing tbh. "Eu quero que você vá tomar no cu" = basically means "I want you to fuck yourself in the ass". The artist seemed really pretty to me. Will search more about her.

3rd seems also a commonly played song in parties and some night clubs but it seems less familiar to me. I'd never listen to it on my own though.

4th one is from a Spanish-speaking country. A different genre from the others. It's also one I would not typically listen but the melody, genre and the beat pleases me more than the aforementioned ones. If you feel like it, look up "mercedes soza -- solo le pido a Dios"... an in-Sapnish song that I listen to occasionally and is surely heartbreaking.

5th one is a pretty famous one! I bet most Brazillians have listened to it at least once. I like it as well. Good melody, beat and the lyrics are ok, it's also pretty commonly played in parties, but the kind of parties are a little different from the ones the aforementioned ones (except the Spanish) are played... less heavy and more family-parties, if I'm making myself easy to understand.

6th one I can't recogine. Must be the most least-heard by Brazillians imo. Don't even rememeber it being played in parties. The lyrics consists of only a phrase as well lol. Kinda meh... generic.

The 7 is one I don't picture as well, but seems kinda unique. It has some good "samba" background and the lyrics are ok, though not exceptional. Should be also a more underground one as it doesn't ring a bell.

The 8th one I also don't remember. Her voice is indeed beautiful. The style remembers me a little certain teen american series, like iCarly... but it's better. Basically an improved version of that. The lyrics also seem pretty love-centered.

Last one I can't recognise either lol. Still, I liked the rock background melody, but the way it was sung didn't please me too much. Not the lyrics, but the vocals.

The 7th one (Lambada) was in the charts in Europe and Japan and number 1 in some countries https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lambada_(song)#Charts

I think Vinny sounds funky.

Oficina G3 seem quite big. They have a few million views anyway. Most of their stuff sounds more like Pearl Jam or Nickelback.

That Spanish-language (Argentina) Mercedes Soza song you mentioned doesn't sound that sad to me lol (obviously I can't understand the lyrics as much as you). It sounds like it's just telling a story or is reminiscing.

One of my favourite hardcore bands is from Brazil it turns out (I searched Brazilian metal on youtube and they came up)

Do you like any hardcore or metalcore?

Do you like ambient kind of pop like these

He did. Although it's worth noting that he originally planned on handing 200 reais, while the 600 reais was changed due to a Congress press. He's planning on continuing to hand this amount, which also kept his popularity from falling too low, but the problem is Brazil hasn't the founds to sustain it much longer.

I'm gonna answer your question soon, Wolf. Waiting for my new wirelesss keyboard to arrive since it's long.
