Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks is also a gag. This is just nonsense.

We are told that Gotenks improved drastically. The first thing mentioned to solidify this is that their Base Fusion has reached a level that their Super Saiyan Fusion was not prior. You are denying the evidence because you don't like the bloat. That's dishonest.

Personally, I don't have any problem with Gotenks, but the truth is that he only started being relevant due to the ssj3 and being superior to Super Buu, any other implication is just out of place. lol

Well he was relevant as a Super Saiyan. He is about on par with Ssj3 Goku and then he gets incredibly stronger.

I think it's the most reasonable approach. I was just reading over the segments the other day and just imagined like all of these power level people going nuts over such and such implications and someone asking Toriyama and him being like, "It's just a joke bro, relax" and it seemed to make so much sense.

It feels like to me, like, a departure from the story for a moment, to insert the gag.

Like, ok, Super Buu >>> Ssj Gotenks is a real thing, then, the entire Base Gotenks thing is a complete gag, nothing counts and then we are returned to our regularly scheduled action to find out Ssj Gotenks has improved enough to more or less match Super Buu now.

I think that's the proper way to handle this stuff.

Most of Gotenks stuff is gag and nonsense so I ignore it and make him weaker than Goku. He's dumb fun. In consequence, since Gohan scales from Gotenks, I also make him below Goku. Gotenks is sooooooo funny I can't take him seriously.

You have no point here though Feats. Gag scenes are non-sequiturs, stuff that simply defies canon logic. A character getting stronger through training is the very opposite of that; it's the most basic Dragon Ball thing.

The entirety of Gotenks vs Boo is played as a joke, but it follows the logic of the series (bar maybe Boo pulling a milkshake and magazine). Trunks and Piccolo thinking Gotenks can fight Boo in base doesn't "destroy the entire power structure" like Roshi blowing up the moon or Arale fracturing the world in half does. It's a remix on the "You might have powered up, but I've powered up more!" trope and there's no joke if Gotenks hasn't powered up that much.

Gotenks's whole presence in RoF and even his fight with Copy Vegeta are also played for laughs. That doesn't make them invalid, does it?
