He underestimated just how much power Goku was hiding. Which speaks volumes about the whole situation. Good point EV. Trunks shock at Goku's comment wasn't because how blunt Goku was being, he was shocked that the level of power Piccolo displayed was completely useless.

Which is why you see absolutely zero confidence coming from Trunks at the Cell Game, even though he's just as strong as Vegeta. He knows Goku has a shit ton more in the bank.

Does he change his opinion after that? He still believes he has no chance in the upcoming Games, and doesn't know Goku is hiding power.

He doesn't know? Well, we know Piccolo was still seeking some confirmation, even though he already expected it. Like said, there's also Trunks' shock at Piccolo's irrelevancy, which implies he still thought someone of Piccolo's level wasn't in the range of being completely useless against Cell.

Trunks realized Goku's 50% wasn't his all after hearing Picc and Goku's convo, both which seems to realize things first than Trunks, who feels like a noob. At the tournament, Trunks surpassed 50% Goku, but still feels this latter has the better chance against Cell as seen when he acted like "are we beginning with you" when Goku put his feet at the ring. This shows "Trunks' estimations for Goku's FP >>> 50% Goku".

Vegeta probably knew 50% Goku wasn't his full power as well, as seen when he asks Kakarotto to show what he can really do. Vegeta's personality is rather different than future Trunks', so he won't be flat out showing how he thinks Goku is still the top dog. He has confidence since he surpassed 50% Goku, but still has his doubts, seeing as he is still a bit apprehensive when Goku is about to fight Cell and isn't being his arrogant self.

Yep which is our 50% Goku >> Warm Up Goku analysis and breakdown of the situation really fits the narrative. It's a multi-pronged issue that can only blend together with that chain. I'm always surprised how it isn't fully adopted by all elites. I don't get it.

Everyone knew that Goku have more unseen power even Vegeta. But nobody expected it to be 2x of his power.

Yes, but they didn't initially. At first, the cast believes that is Goku's full power and that Cell is even a bit beyond that. This is the goal posts. Everyone is shooting for it.

They all catch up or surpass and then have second thoughts if that was actually Goku's power. Doubt creeps in. Piccolo's doubt is confirmed drastically and Trunks picks up on it via bystander status. Vegeta has his doubts, but he has his ego too. When Goku begins, we see his true thoughts.

There are a series of questions you have to ask to come to the correct conclusion. It's not as concrete as I'd like, but when you see the story weaved in the manner, imo, it is the correct logical option.

The cast is in a state of panic at Goku's comments regarding he and Cell. Clearly Goku has a better read on Cell than the group does.

They are all relying on Goku's point of view now, which is a bit silly considering that they actually fought Cell and Goku merely got a glance, but for whatever reason Goku becomes the new Krillen and can sense Cell's hidden power.

Cell seems to do this with Goku as well, it makes for a good read.

50% Goku is possibly Goku's full power. So we know Warm Up Goku cannot be. I'm too tired to go any further with it than that for now. Should be enough gems in there.

I also think Vegeta is more confident than Trunks not only due to his own ego, but also because Trunks heard from Goku himself that what he showed at Karin wasn't his full power (not exactly those words, but the implications should be pretty strong). Vegeta is more like suspecting it imo, while Trunks has a full confirmation.
