Haki has been one of the most poorly explained power systems, so I'll try to break down how I view it.

Busoshoku

Level 1: Hardening - Coats the body in Haki to increase attack power and defensive ability. Can also imbue weaponry in the same way.

Level 2: Emission - Allows the flow of Haki through the body to attack or repel attacks without touching. Can also be used with swords. It's worth noting that swords still make contact despite using level 2 Busoshoku, as Oden was shocked by Whitebeard/Roger's clash despite being a level 2 user.

Level 3: Destruction - Allows the Haki to enter the target and destroy it from within.

Haoshoku

Level 1: Can release a controlled shock wave of Haki that knocks out those of low willpower.

Level 2: Coats the body in Haoshoku Haki. Attacks do not make physical contact with the target which also applies to weaponry (see Whitebeard and Roger). While this might seem very similar to Busoshoku level 2, Luffy gives us an explanation. He claims that his level 2 and level 3 Busoshoku attacks were too shallow which is why they had no real effect on Kaido. Haoshoku infusion allows for much more significant impact and attack potency.

Kenbunshoku

Level 1: Can sense the presence of others, as well as their location, emotions, and strength level. Can predict what the opponent is going to do in battle.

Level 2: Future Sight - Can see a clear image of the future.

Now, until we get better explanations it's impossible to say any of this is factual. Advanced Haoshoku might be the combination of that and level 2 Busoshoku which is why the attacks don't touch. What I do know is this is not an effect that can happen when two Busoshoku level 2 users attack one another. Oden wouldn't be surprised by this if that were the case.

Well, maybe Oden learned it when he was in Roger's crew?

I doubt it. Even Hyogoro was aware of it despite not communicating with Oden after his adventure with Roger. Hyogoro acted like it was common knowledge in Wano.

It definitely can. Hyogoro was a Samurai and would've had no application for the Advanced Busoshoku if it couldn't be used. Kaido was also hurt by the Scabbards swords and claimed it was the same type of Haki that Oden used. Luffy was the one who thought he could only damage Kaido with level 2 or above, which Kaido confirms.

If the blade is making contact with the enemy then I don't see how it's Level 2. If level 1 already coats the blade in CoA, then what does Level 2 do?

Level 1 would be strengthening the blade with Haki. Level 2 would mean the Haki flows through the hardened blade and into the enemy.

Why does it require contact then? If it's flowing into the hardened blade then it's adding an extra layer of Haki.

Honestly it's probably comparable.

Do you think Oden used advanced haoshoku when hurting Kaido?

I don't think so. I don't recall seeing any black streams of Haki emitting from his swords.

Interesting enough, Zoro displayed these black streams leaking out of his sword when attacking Pica... maybe Zoro was already using Haoshoku in his attacks then or was that merely artistic?

I think he's referring to the anime where they added a stylistic element to the coated blades.

Tbh I don't think it's that unlikely that Oden has Adv. CoC which allowed him to scar Kaido. I'm not saying definitely but it's not impossible.

It's very suspect that he is treated in the same light as these other guys that most definitely have Adv. CoC.

It's possible. There is some black lightning effect when Oden slashes dragon Kaido. There's also this:

But even considering this, we see their weapons are physically making contact, so it isn't the same as what Roger/WB or Luffy/Kaido have shown us.

But still, that picture isn't even showing Shiki who is much stronger than Oden. I don't think it has to definitively tell us that Oden has advanced Haoshoku.

I mean we see the black lightning effect in a lot of instances, not just CoC. Hopefully we find out at some point.

Do you pals think this was an unconscious Haoshoku Haki from Zoro too? The enemies seem to stress this fright and uneasiness his aura can impose. That, or maybe it was moreso an "intention to kill"? Like, a sub-category from Haoshoku?

As for the aura leaking from Zoro's sword, it was in Dressrosa when he was trying to stop the birdcage, actually.

I actually do think it's possible that those instances foreshadowed him having CoC. I'm starting to think Haoshoku probably has some sort of intimidation effect on even strong willed people, even if it doesn't make them pass out.

As for that aura from that blade, I think it's just Buso Haki as Zoro says it himself.
