Does Luffy have the most generic design out of all MCs relative to their series?

One-Piece has so many distinctive character-designs even amongst the crew, yet Luffy is the most generic-looking one.

He is not huge, he is not little. He has normal hair. He wears a read vest, blue shorts and that’s it. Other than his Straw-Hat, which I guess is his most distinctive trait.

I can’t think of anyone-else who looks more normal in any series.

In Part I, no. In Part II, yes. I feel like they oversimplified him in the time skip in general. Outside of the scar on his chest he received from Akainu.

Difficult to think of one relatively speaking, because One Piece had weird designs. Gon from HxH is quite generic-looking for a shounen protagonist, in a universe with many designs like Hisoka, Knuckle, Killua's brothers, Kurapika and the Chimera Ants.

I am a Hero the MC is a really normal-looking guy, but the non-zombies are all normal humans. There are other characters who have a more cool look.

Gokusen? She wouldn't stand out a lot, and is surrounded by yakuza guys.

The straw hats have pretty simplistic designs in general.

Robin stands-out (other than Franky & Maybe Brook, above Zoro & Sanji) & she doesn’t have the Nami design which has become like standard from what I’ve heard.
Zoro has green hair & swords & those green-ish clothes.
Nami is like a female Luffy, so yeah but at-least she has orange hair which made her stand-out at 1st IIRC.
Brook is a legit skeleton.
Franky is gigantic. Blue hair & stuff.
Sanji hair & eye hiding.
Usopp long nose & clothes.

Luffy didn’t really have anything compared to them.

At-least Gon has that green spiky hair.

Gon has black hair (so does Hijikata in Gintama. For some reason I sometimes see his hair called green too, but I don't see it). Ok, Gon has green hair sometimes. First time I've noticed. The spikey hair in shounen is generic though.


Sanji and Robin look pretty normal. They could blend in with the general public (as in the crowds of people when they show news broadcasts and the public are watching), in a world where many other named characters couldn't.

Well Sanji got the hair thing going & Nico Robin does not look close to like Nami so I guess that makes her stand-out in that world.
