He had more nuances to him. His cruelty and sadism were presented in a way ppl would come and say "why is he so evil?"... but then he showed respect and consideration for most of his subordinates. They were family to him. Kaido crying while drunk at Big Mom's downfall doesn't even come close to Doflamingo's farewell to Vergo. This contrast between madness and consideration was very well done. The flashback was good too, showing us how the torture Doffy suffered affected him even in his dreams. He was always calm and collected, like he had everything under control and disguised well his frustrations. He saw in Law an image of himself... someone born from madness... and showed interest as he could see in Law an identification to himself. It was very well shown. Big Mom seems bland and Kaido is strong as fuck but without much substance. Almost like a brute.
My only gripe would be the way Corazón seemed to define Doflamingo as evil from birth. I'd rather his evilness was molded from his experiences. But it seems Oda tries too antagonize the villains too much, almost like a way of having us feeling satisfaction for their fall... which is a shame.
But the way it was revealed he was a Tenryuubito and the suspense of how he had that power was intriguing. I'd grant that Law's resentment against Dofla was a little to be desired, at least imo, but the whole fight was more interesting. It seemed like Doflamingo had a way around everything. Even to the bitter end he kept his composure.
Dressrosa as a whole wasn't that compelling as an arc as it felt a little repetitive compared to previous arcs, but Doflamingo had in him what way stronger and more menacing villains didn't have, I'd argue.
