I always assumed Goku estimated Gotenks' power based on that display he saw. Prior to that, he didn't really seem so sure about what to expect.

Actually, I just checked, and he does say he believes the extreme power of Fusion would allow them to defeat Boo within 30 mins. That seems to be based on his opinion regarding Fusion in general more so than the kids.

I know a lot of people don't agree, but "nasty gamble" can actually mean that the Fusion could end up not being enough. Goku seems to be sure that the kids will get the Fusion down quickly, along with believing Gotenks would definitely be powerful enough to handle Boo. I suppose the gamble could be referring to them somehow fucking up during battle.

Vegeta assumed that he had greater power than Goku because he was a Saiyan Prince. He believed that somehow would put him above Goku by default.

Goku was the first one to remark on Goten's lack of ki control so it could be them fucking up, but he also said to Piccolo that the younger guys have better odds than him so SSJ Gotenks > SSJ3 Goku seems pretty concrete

Yeah, i do follow the Daiz when it doesn't contradict the Manga. I'm talking about people who think even Daimao > Tenshinhan or Goku = 2x Nappa are truth.

I'm another who really likes the Daizenshuu and believes it's a valuable source of information. I just don't act like it's the be all end all of things. You have people who believe Gotenks was weaker than Vegeta before entering the rosat.
