I picked up Sparking Zero over the Steam Christmas sale and ended up refunding it after about an hour of playtime. Just felt substanceless compared to the older titles; the story mode comes off rather cheaply made, the roster has practically no representation from the first half of the manga, not very many stages, and the visuals honestly aren't as much of an upgrade as you'd expect for a game released last year. I think FighterZ has a lot more flair in that department.
Just seems like there isn't very much to it outside of the online functionality, ended up going back to Budokai Tenkaichi 3. If they ever mark down the price to like 20$ or so I may purchase it again just to be able to fight people online. For me the appeal of the BT series was always it basically being your own personal Dragon Ball toybox/simulator rather than a competitive online game and in that respect I think BT3 still has it beat.
To be fair to them, this is the first entry on what is presumably a new engine/dev team and the first BT game was not nearly as good as 2 or 3 were. In the 2000s they got to make 2 sequels building upon that foundation and fleshing everything out, whereas now that isn't as acceptable and you're expected to just patch or update all of that in. So maybe it'll improve with time, here's hoping since BT2 and 3 are my favourite DB games lol.
