Are they unplayable now?

This is coming from a former genwunner. You can’t run, glitches are everywhere, the move pools suck, I could go on. What hits the nail in the coffin is that unless you replace the batteries in the cartridges they can’t even save anymore, so what’s the point?

Gen 3 has battery issues also and no physical/special split on top of cutting half the Pokemon out and requiring you to have all 5 cartridges as well as attend events for a full Pokedex.

Generation 3 is in that weird middle ground where it’s not as primitive as the Gameboy Color games but is less polished than the DS and 3DS entries. I personally think it’s closer in objective quality to the DS and 3DS games but I can totally see how someone would think otherwise.

Gen 3 for life, R/S/E.
Then FR/LG for Gen 1 and 2, even thought it's not exactly the same as actual R/B and G/S/C.

You’re mistaking Liquid Crystal, which is a FireRed/LeafGreen romhack, to HeartGold and SoulSilver.

Generation 3 is my favorite too even though I explained earlier that it’s not as good as the DS and 3DS games objectively.

The Gameboy Advance games didn’t even need to remake G/S/C, considering Generation 2 has much less Pokemon introduced in it than Generations 1 & 3, although it would have made completing the Pokédex far easier.

I'd argue they should have stopped remaking them after HeartGold/SS. ORAS was basically a copy and paste of RS with virtually no Emerald elements and a subpar post-game sidequest, and BSDP was even lazier and didn't even include any new Pokemon introduced after Gen 4. Doesn't make me hopeful for a BW/BW2 remake, but then again I dropped the Pokemon games after Sun and Moon anyway. Was getting lackluster and cashgrabby.

Gen 3 is most unplayable. Two serious attempts, but I never finished it. I'd rather swim in a pool for 3 hours and then live in Venice.

Gen 2 is most playable. 2 or 3 successful attempts.

Gen 1 might be playable too, but I've not retried it since playing Blue and Yellow at primary school age. Never tried the remakes.
