Gohan had not unlocked SSJ2 in ROSAT?

Would Goku have got desperate, like the others? Would he have still been
cool, having accepted the fact that they were all going to die?

That was filler.

But Goku mentioned it in the manga.
But they didn't literally show Super-Saiyan 2.

It was Gohan's true power during the Cell Games and Toriyama just added SSjin2 at the top of it later in the Boo arc. Not even Goku and Vegeta can tell that Gohan was SSjin2 against Cell at that time but later in the series since SSjin2 wasn't a thing yet.

So Gohan awakened his true power with SSjin2 in the ROSAT but subconsciously.

But like I said there was no illustration to go with it, so it's filler.

Don't play stupid. I meant, if Goku hadn't seen whatever he saw in ROSAT and MSSJ was Gohan's
max, what would have happened? What would Goku have done during the 10 days?

He might have just seen Gohan's angry power.

It wasn't just the Rosat that would've triggered Galu's confidence in Gohan, but the very nature of his latent power in general. Hell, the fight with Raditz should've been enough reasoning for him to view Gohan's rage as his trump card. Their training in the Rosat was just a little icing to the cake.

Let's avoid logic there and assume for some reason Galu doesn't view Gohan as his trump card. Best case scenario is Goku takes the Senzu, fights Cell again and by the end, Cell is weakened enough for Gohan to kill Cell himself with enough encouragement, or have the rest of the Zet-Senshi do the job. Goku survives, the event is broadcast due to SS2 Gohan not destroying the ZTV camera and the gang get the credit they deserve. Goku trains Goten once he's old enough and Gohan is encouraged to at least take some sparring in his free time to stay in shape. Vegeta also wouldn't let Kakarotto's child surpass his, so he'd train Trunks harder, leading to the kids being far stronger than their canon counterparts. Boo Arc goes the same up until Dabura VS Gohan, where a non-rusty Gohan would be able to kill Dabura. Vegeta doesn't go Majin since without the Other World training, I don't think Goku's gains would be as great as in canon. Babidi dies, Boo is never revived and Beerus' conflict on Earth comes about as either boredom, or Goku bothering to step up before he leaves. Things proceed pretty much the same in the grand scheme of things, since neither Boo nor Elder Kaioshin play much of a role in Super. As for Gohan's difference in power, I'd assume his haxed potential would still allow him to surpass Piccolo and the post-God Base Saiyans with his training, so unless he plays a crucial role in the ToP, nothing is changed that much for now.

Worst case scenario for the heroes, Cell kills everyone and destroys Earth, either destroying Boo as well or having him face a heavily weakened Boo, who he'd probably beat once he gains a SPC tier Zenkai. Dabura and Babidi are killed eventually and once Beerus wakes up, I believe the potential he'd see in Cell would stop him from getting Hakai'd. Cell goes through 4 months of training, becomes Emerald Shello and though not on Beerus' level just yet, he'd definitely become his successor, so long as Zen-Oh doesn't destroy Universe 7. Doubt the Universe 6 Arc would happen (though if it does, Emerald Cell would just solo the U6 team anyway) and whilst I don't see Cell being treat as a friend by Zen-Oh, he'd probably still propose the idea of a tournament. Future Trunks Arc obviously never happens (so that's a plus). As for the ToP, Cell likely uses Shunkan Ido to get to Namek and revive Earth and his victims, before he and Beerus make up the same roster as current, with Cell taking Freeza's place. With a far weaker roster though, Jiren solos them, U11 wins and U7 is Hakai'd.

Or if characters used their brains some more, we could have the first scenario, but with Piccolo sealing Cell away with the Mafuba.

Goku never viewed Gohan as a trump card during the years between Raditz Saga-Cell Games. Obviously,
something happened in ROSAT that made Goku view his son as such, be it the filler SSJ2 burst scene or
whatever happened in your manga headcanon.

Not really. You gave to look at the situations. Everything before Cell no-matter how hard or impossible it seemed Goku had a shot at winning or the best chance out of everyone. In the Freeza Saga, even before Super-Saiyan his training and Zenkais made him the bar-none highest Z-Fighter. In the Saiyan Saga, Goku was also by far the highest character from the heroes and had new techniques such as Kaio-Ken and stuff. And he never got to train with Gohan around those Sagas. He did in the Android Saga, but he didn't know how strong the androids were and apparently made enough progress to think he himself can take the androids on. Against Cell he trained and trained but just figured his best wasn't enough, no matter how hard he tried. His potential at the time to him seemed maxed-out, so Gohan was his only hope. He knew he had potential that way surpasses his own, so he put all his eggs in one basket.

He still knew SSJ Gohan was much stronger than himself.. He doesn't even need to know about SSJ2.

Nothing would chance because that's filler.
