According to the official Japanese Pokemon website, Green (Blue) was mourning the loss of his Pokemon, to the point that he didn't even notice what was happening in the floor above. So it seems that rumor about his Raticate perishing was correct, and @Yoshi 's fanfic was actually right on the money when it came to the Raticate's death

Just using Deepl translator, it just says that maybe he's mourning his pokemon. It's a dedicated horror column of the website, so it makes sense to say things to be creepy. You see jokey answers in manga interviews all the time, like in Oda's SBSes.
