How did the Manga version of FnF go?

He scolded them right after, but noting "blue hair" really just looks odd there. The first thing he does is name the form Super Saiyan Blue when Goku and Vegeta were going back and forth on what to call it. It just seems like an observation to me.

Well you need to look carefully at what the author/artist is trying to convey. The manga special of FNF is virtually identical to the film, and in that film Whis was witness to Supa Saiyajin Blue, so it's fair to assume he saw it as well in the manga continuity. I don't think it was a look of shock. I think (as I've said) it's a look of anger or annoyance that they'd transform during a spar session.

There wouldn't be a need to add an additional ? when there was one after Hmmm, though. What would be the point of even putting a ? there in the first place? If it was being annoyed over them transforming, a simple ! would suffice.

An example: Vegeta turns Super Saiyan.

Everyone: "What?!"
Gohan: "He's a Super Saiyan!!"

The ! was enough after the initial ? of Vegeta's transformation. There are countless other examples, but this quickly came to mind. Surprise can be expressed in different ways. Whis is always calm even when he's taken aback.

I didn't consider that. Perhaps it could convey surprise, but the question is did he know of SSJB beforehand. My humble opinion is yes.

I wonder if in-universe Vegeta came up with the name. Goku seems to have a hard time even pronouncing it, so Veggie's elite self probably thought it somehow sounded majestic

I wish SSJB was coloured a faded blue in the manga. It don't look good as is.

That's a good point. The Narrator saying Goku and Vegeta reached Super Saiyan Blue after Whis' training pretty much slams the door on him not knowing. I still would've liked to have seen this part in the Manga, though. Whis talks about them as if they're overly arrogant about defeating Golden Freeza, but we know they were lucky to have won at all. With how much the Manga has differed from the Anime, I could see a Super RoF playing out much different than what we saw in the Super Anime.

Maybe the real reason Toyo skipped that arc in the manga was that he's secretly a Gohan fanboy. I mean, his manga chapter saying Gohan had the most potential was released before the anime episode, and the FnF manga adaptation suspiciously didn't contain that scene where Freeza one-punched Gohan either. Maybe he hated that scene in the movie and that's why he didn't include it

In that same manga Goku pretty much buried him.

It's like Toriyama took a bribe from toei to fap Goku as much as he can while keeping him not quite god level yet, and shit on Gohan like the guy in a port a potty in a massive earthquake.
