I think it was mentioned that they were hesitant based on the rumors of how strong the Samurai were. Also, Kaido was controlling it for the past 24 years.

Did they know of their involvement with the poneglyphs before Kaido took over the island?

Also is Big Mom portrayed as far inferior to Kaido in this arc? I heard both of them lost, and disrespecting a Yonko seems like bad writing.

Idk, probably. At the very least, we know the existence of Ryuma was known throughout the world, which may have been a factor for the WG being cautious on making their moves.

Kaido and Big Mom are on the same level, with the former having the edge.

So, final question before I binge OP for however long: Did you find the expanded lore and reveals in the Wano arc (and to lesser extent Kek Island or whatever) worth the wait since the setup that was built prior? Also, is Oden kind of a GaryStu with all his involvement with important characters?

The reveals are probably one of the most infamous parts of Wano. I think on that aspect alone it delivered as good as it could have been. I think maybe it would have been better to name drop Nika prior to Wano, but that's about it.

In some aspect, Oden is kind of meant to be written as this larger than life figure. It's a contrast to Momonosuke who wants to live up to his fathers name despite being in his shadow. Oden's weakness was that he wasn't a good leader for his country, which ended up biting him in the ass.

Alright, I'm going to read Oz/Moria vs. Nightmare Luffy today and keep updating the thread every time I reach a certain benchmark.

Finished Thriller Bark. The song Brook played for the crew gets me in every reread, saddest backstory so far even moreso than Robin's. Going to continue on with Sabaody and Amazon Lily now.

How does the song gets to you when you can't hear it since it's the manga? :troll :troll

Needless to say I dropped this endeavor since Part 2's latest arc seems to be devolving into a carcinogen and I couldn't maintain interest in Sabaody and Amazon Lily when I've read them before already

Where did you leave off?
I read the beginning of Part 2, up to Luffy encountering the giant mermaid crybaby chick. I skipped on ahead to Dressrosa because I heard Punk Hazard and Fishmeng Fagland were both boring, finished it other than the dragged out birdcage portion that was all a waste of time. I then dropped it for years, picked it back up during 2021 in full color and got up to Rayleigh appearing in Sabaody before I lost interest

I think Fishman Island and Punk Hazard are still better than Dressrosa. Both are bad, but Dressrosa goes from great to awful.
