If both are fighters that purely rely on swordsmanship and Haki (Roger as far as we know has no DF), wouldn't the fact that Mihawk being able to turn his blade black while Roger couldn't mean that the former is the more powerful and skilled one?

Mihawk is a more polished swordsmen. Roger with his CoC haki probably has more attack power.

Roger is also seen with a gun on several occasions. He's a swordsman first and foremost, but his goal wasn't to be a master swordsman like Mihawk. Agreed with the above. Mihawk is a more skilled swordsman but his power doesn't quite compare to prime Roger.

Mihawk could have better CoA, while Roger likely had better CoC.

I don't think we know enough about Shanks to make the comparison. He might be much stronger since he and Mihawk dueled.

Because to me if that were the case then Mihawk's title of ''World's Strongest Swordsmen'' means nothing if there are guys that only fight with swords can beat him.

But you are right that we don't know enough about Shanks' ability, so we'll see.

Mihawk could plausibly be stronger than Shanks for all we know. We know very little about either of their abilities at this time.

Also how much do we really know about black blades? There are only two of them in the series that we know of iirc. Maybe it has to do with having a "bond" with the blade. Roger might've been a stronger swordsman but didn't identify as one and thus never turned the blade black. Who knows.

There’s 3. Mihawk, WB and Ryuma all had/have one.

I don't understand the reasoning behind Mihawk > Roger you brought up, honestly. Isn't turning blades and body parts black pretty achievable and commonly used in part 2? Vergo could turn his weapon all black. Zoro in his fight vs Pica, too.

Only Mihawk and Ryuma have made a blade black.

It is possible to turn a blade permanent black by a master swordsman. Mihawk's Yoru and Ryuma's Shisui are such examples. Roger has not been able to do this.

Also, didn't Mihawk say "anyone can turn a blade black"...?

They can. Doesn't mean everyone will.

For some reason I can’t quote ahill, but you’re talking about CoA haki. Just adding armament to your sword and having a real black blade isn’t the same thing.

Here's the quote:

"Every weapon can be turned into a Black blade like mine".

He's specifically speaking about his blade.

Where's the problem? Every weapon can theoretically be turned into a black blade.

What are you arguing for?

Mihawk's sword isn't originally black, it became like that after years of training. He's not talking about simply reinforcing a blade with CoA temporarily.
