Most unexpected Strawhat?

I didn't expect Robin at all. Very out of the blue. The only hint I know of is her laughing when Luffy is struggling to keep the water in his body during the second Crocodile fight.

I think I'd already seen that Franky was in the SHs so expected it to happen eventually, but otherwise it could've been the biggest surprise.

Her saving Luffy after the first Crocodile fight made it obvious.

I wouldn't say it made it obvious, because she still barely interacted with Luffy or any of the crew prior to rocking up on their ship. Loads of characters helped and chatted more with the SHs and never joined.

Brook was the biggest surprise. It wasn't until it was revealed that he was connected to Laboon that he was a lock.

You clearly weren't following one piece fandom at the time. Who was going to join the crew was a huge debate. He definitely wasn't unexpected.
