I had watched movie 5, the sacred sword, beforehand. But yeah, I had forgotten I didn't rate it.

It's a movie that strays away moreso than the others due to its different plot and presenting Zoro as taking some at-the-time-seen dubious actions. It's also fine that we have Zoro doing the last fighting rather than Luffy and I somewhat liked the dark tune it presented with the legend of the sword. Still, Zoro's actions can be contested if looked more closely as it's unlikely he'd have taken some actions without further explanations. But still, out of the 5 first movies, it's the one which deserves the highest score imo.

5.5/10

We can go to the Baron movie 6 now. I think I'll post my thoughts afterwards.

Now onto Movie 6, Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island.

Movie 6 is somewhat more creative than the other One Piece films, though it takes quite a while for this to become apparent. The first half is the typical fare of cliched comedic antics before the plot starts to thicken, making the first 40 or so minutes difficult to tolerate. We then have the internal conflict between the Straw Hats being introduced, one of the selling points of the film, but this is a clear case of good premise with terrible execution. Nami suddenly believing Usopp abandoned her intentionally when he had a wing gadget forced upon him was overly irrational as is how the conflict between the group is presented in general. It seemed to be implied the flower was responsible for this by amplifying feelings of distrust, but this is never explicitly established and dropped pretty quickly. Speaking of which, the worst part of the whole film is how the main conflict between the Straw Hats is never resolved; it just suddenly goes away at the end without any sort of resolution. You could argue the Lily Carnation was entirely responsible for this, in which case the conflict was an artificial one based on mind control that provided little agency for the Straw Hats and their actions.
As for the good aspects of the film, Omatsuri is somewhat sympathetic in his goals of not wanting to accept the loss of his crew and it's good that a character other than Luffy was responsible for the villain's defeat. Even these aspects have some flaws to them though with Omatsuri's backstory being pretty strange in showing the entire crew as having a single wanted poster rather than its individual members, something unseen in the series. The defeat of Omatsuri also relied on him being too incompetent as to not see the arrow heading for the Lily Carnation and stop it, and despite not being the one to beat him, Luffy being able to endure all areas of his limbs getting pierced and still going is plot armouring on par with him beating Lucci. Daisy's hearing was also a missed opportunity as it seemed to be applying she had Kenbunshoku Haki or "Mantra" similar to the girl on Skypiea, yet it just gets brushed off as extra-sensitive hearing. There's also some issues in casting as the seiyuu for DJ and Daisy seem very off, neither being able to bring out the necessary emotion to match some of the more dramatic scenes (which is a surprise when the latter did an excellent job voicing Robin's child self).
Overall, probably more worthwhile than the other OP films, but still pretty mind-numbing in its poor execution of good ideas.
